hey Kevin..... the new guitar is GREAT! thanks again. I'm going to leave it just as it is. My band mates say it sounds even better than the 1980 360. I haven't yet done a side-by-side sound comparrison. One thing for sure, it's a bit lighter weight-wise which is nice.
As far as my older 360 goes, maybe I'll turn it into THIS kind of bigsby/toaster thang (I already have the bigsby... actually two - this kind and the longer type that screws in at the strap peg):

How many of these great pics are factory fitted Bigsbys I wonder?

RE: the Tom Petty thing, here's my theory. Mike has the B5 (or 50, or 500) fastened to the trapeze using the two rear screw holes on the Bigsby. The strings keep the whole thing in tension and therefore in place, it's easily reversible and there are no holes to drill in that irreplaceable Capri.

As the strings pass UNDER the front bar of the Bigsby Paul, I don't think the strings would tension the unit flush to the gtr....

You know, I thought about that, Tony, having just installed one of these on one of my Gretsches only three days ago!
My pictures are not clear enough to see if Mike's strings pass under the front bar. This is such a strange setup that maybe they pass over the bar... I know it sounds weird, but it looks pretty weird, too. Does anybody have a clearer picture to put this one to bed?

OK, on page 9 of the link above (Vic Concert in Chicago, in my old neighborhood, BTW!) there are some bigger pics. They are not clear on the strings, but I do believe that I can see the screws that hold it to the top of the guitar. The angle on the second picture shows it to be fastened down.
Why he would use a Bigsby AND a trapeze is anyone's guess... but who needs logic?
Check out the GREENGLO mandolin on page 6!

I believe whoever mounted the Bigsby did so on top of the trapeze, possibly to "level" the B5. The screw holes from the trapeze mounting bracket would not be an issue then either.
This guitar sounds fantastic in the "Soundstage" concert. Who says Rickenbackers are not "lead" guitars?
