That could be salvaged, would acually be fun to restore it anyway, it could probably be made to look halfway decent too. Looks like it belonged to a punk band.

uhhhhh, didnt Blackstars have checkerd binding? This one doesn't.

Shadows had checkered binding....Blackstars were based on the 's' models....no binding.

But that rust is a worry. If you have to replace the pickups, how much money are we talking about?

You could probably get a set for almost nothing from someone on the Forum....most of us have some spares laying around.

I'm considering it as a project (realistically I am a little too broke at the moment) and have enough stuff and connections to get out of it pretty cheap. My main concern would be fretwear and the condition of the neck.

Plus there are still four days left and it could easily break $1K. At that point I'd rather score a less beat 4003s and just make a solid Blackstar Clone.

How would you do that? Replace the fretboard?

I'm not a Blackstar expert and I'm not talking about a 100% perfect clone either.....just pulling off the theme.

To get the black neck/pindot fretmarker look I would just sand most of the finish from the fretboard and mask in pindot markers in the existing dot inlays and spray the neck black when the rest of the bass is reprayed. Once the masking is pulled and it is all clearcoated it should get the effect pretty close.

I wonder if that would work with a normal 4003. Redo the binding (if that is possible) but keep the triangle inlays.

being the seller, the guitar still sounds fine, fretboard is ok other than knicked up and needing serious cleaning. I inherited this bass from my father, so I am not the one that tortured this poor thing. I have had basses for over 8 years with only a couple dings. somebody really abused it, but it plugs in and works. hate to let it go, but have no money to put into it. making a knockoff might pass by eye, but these were produced with numbered certificates of authenticity. This one was lost obviously the owner cared little about it as the bass shows also.

yeah, I wish I could put some cash into it to bring back its "luster" , but just had a baby girl and times are tough, so gotta let someone else enjoy the axe that might be able to spruce her back up a little. been hanging on to it, but, just can't get the funds to make it like I would like.
