Gold Hardware Issues

Peter,
I kept the gold jackplate so I would have the original S/N. I suppose I could have it replated but I do not know how that will affect the S/N itself.
The reasons I changed to chrome parts is that I don't really like the look of gold parts especially after they have been worn down, plus toasters are classic looking and sounding pickups that, to me, wouldn't look right in gold.
Gold plating just wears too fast and chrome is much more robust. I am not surprised to hear that Brian's LK is wearing already. It is not a reflection (ha ha) on RIC, this happens to other makes also.

Jeffrey (Jps),
you are completely right, the "gold" plating does NOT make the Rick more precious, it rather makes it look fancy and very fast, when the plating wears off it looks even cheap. I saw some very ugly hardware on a 4004Ci. So I'm probably gonna switch to chrome on the Cheyenne and sell the Laredo as a very unique Rick with new serial no. and gold hardware...

...but in Germany we have some "bad history" of oak leave and acorn symbolism. Might be not so sought after...
...I personally have a problem with that model name as I do not like to be connected to the respective artist...
...maybe because my wife expects me to be shaved reasonably...

Hi Jeffrey (Jps)!
last week I got the 4004CiiTR from Mark Henson. I swapped the gold hardware of it with the chrome one from my '95 FG Laredo but kept the original jack plates, because of the serial numbers. The Cheyenne does look much better now to my opinion, not so fancy anymore for collectors but more like a serious playing gear and I'm no longer afraid of loosing some of the plated gold on the thumb rest position of the neck PU. The Laredo with it's fireglo will definitely gain some value with the gold hardware. I will post pics soon.

...I think he had some problems with his e-mail account so he gave me a new one: "[email protected]", in case you want to contact.
...did anybody realize, that the PU cavities of the Laredo were a few mm larger than the ones of the Cii? It gave me some trouble with the finish, but I sanded away a bit of the corners of the PU plastic layer under the chrome cover than it fit...
