New day, new questions:-)I looked under the pickguard, but it was the same greenish color there. Should not this be more black? Is there any smart way to detect if there has been any refinish on this one. I think not, but I worry a little because of the greenish color

I doubt very much it has been refinished, but if you want to know for sure take it apart and look for overspray, different colors in the cavities etc. It's possible but unlikely. If it was you'll find signs someplace even if it was repainted over jetglo

Interesting to note, my black 78 Fender P bass turns dark green in bright sunlight.

Sounds like Bob wrote earlier about the top layer turning yellow. If you take a piece of yellow transparant paper and put it on top of anything black, and it looks green. Magic:-) I begin to belive that the color of my rick is original jetglo, and still is.

Another thing: The binding around the body is also painted black, but some of the paint has fallen off, and turned white on the edge. The binding on neck is white, (or yellow. Is this right for this one?

It is a white trim bass then, maybe had also white TRC and pickguard but not necessarily. The trim was not painted at the factory. That puts things in a different light, now I would take it apart to check.

Ok I´ll do that. But I looked under pickguard and TRC, and its still same color. I can´t see any signs of repainting. Did they never paint white bindings at all?

Can I be 100% sure that it´s been repainted because of the white binding around the body, or did they do that sometimes?

I don't think they ever painted trim, that doesn't necessarily mean the whole bass has been painted though, although I would say it does point in that direction.

Ok Bob thanks. Could there be someone who knows this for sure that maybee worked at the facktory at that time around 1984? The reason I wonder is I may have paid to much for it because of this.
