Oh yeah...no doubt on that count. The 4001 felt like it was made of concrete or something compared to the Laredo.

But, strangely enough, when I weighed my Rick collection, my Fireglo Laredo weighed in a few ounces heavier than my new 4003, and a full pound heavier than my Cheyenne I. Hmm.

Damned odd, I would say. I don't have a scale precise enough to tell the difference between my 4001 and J-Bass, and I've never tried to weigh the Laredo. But last night it seemed when I held each guitar by the neck in separarate hands that the 4001 was at least a pound heavier...

Hi Paul,
also my 4004Laredo FG (´95) is a bit heavier (definitely not the official 8lbs of the Rick specs) than my ´98 4003 FG (but luckily that also does not comply with the specs of 9lbs... it is lighter!!!). I assume it is the full maple body and neck of the Laredo that ads to the usual weight. Another reason might be the FG finish, maybe some more laquer layers than with just the JG of the standard Laredo? But my 4003 is also FG finish... mhm???

How much weight can a few layers of lacquer put on? 10's of grams?
Just natural variation of the woods, production process, and all those other factors I'd suppose.
