I love the Gurus and I have never associated them with REM or Rickenbackers......until recently. One of their newer videos shows Brad playing a MG 450/12.

One group that made it past the REM sound-a like title and used a RIC 12 was the Gin Blossoms.

My band and the Gin Blossoms played SXSW 1989 together! They still had a few years to go to make it.

I saw The Hoodoo Gurus play at 'The Gluepot' in Auckland, New Zealand back in 1984. I saw them again at 'Numbers' in Houston, TX in 1986.

Dan - that's funny you mentioned "Green Grow the Rushes." That is my favorite clean electric tone of all time on that song! I'm with you on that one....

I saw the Hoodoo Gurus play in Ottawa (Ontario) in 1985; a great show!

In 1986, saw the Gurus open for the Bangles, also in Ottawa. The Gurus were fun, the Bangles were limp.

Previously, in November of 1984, the Bangles had played Ottawa while opening for Cindy Lauper. That Bangles performance was energetic and fun; by the time fame had arrived for them two years later, they looked and sounded tired.

I remember REM opened their Document tour in Knoxville...after the show we went to a local bar, the Library, to see the Kilkenny Kats, an Athens band. REM (sans Stipe) showed up, hung out, jammed with the KK. I remember standing at the bar, elbow to elbow with Buck, each with our Bud longnecks...I tried to think of something worth saying other than "man, you're my hero!" I chose to let him relax and enjoy his beer.

For the record, Fables is my favorite (although I seem to remember them saying they hated the way it turned out).

SOmething similar happened to me about a year ago. . . I was in a local club, checking out some local bands. The guy in the barstool next to me is Mitch Easter. I chose to let him enjoy his beer.

No way I'm letting Mitch Easter enjoy his beer. I've sat next to or near a lot of famous people that I have not bothered (last week was Mike Ditka who is very approachable).

Anyone remotely associated with REM or Let's Active would have to beat me with a stick to keep me from peppering them with gear/set up questions. Getting an autograph would be the last thing on my mind, though, unless I had a guitar handy!

I was very lucky to see Let's Active a few times. I loved that band, I'd like to replace my LPs with CDs if I could find any.

I wonder if anyone knows if there are any more plans for a signature model in the future for anyone. Given the current backlog that I've read about elsewhere, perhaps nothing is on the horizon?
