ah, I see now. Timbales and percussion.... before now the only Baboo I'd ever heard of was the restaurant owner in "Seinfeld". I guess when it comes to identifying percussion studio musicians I'm beddy beddy bad.

I appreciated it at once Paul....sorry about my checking in and out lately...the girl and I are preparing to split tonight for two weeks to Alaska for a well-deserved vacation. Well, okay...she deserves it more than I do, but there ya go.
I'll be back here on July 12, at which point I'll check back in to see all that I've missed...and perhaps regale you all with some anecdotes. (If I have a chance to visit one of them there new-fangled Internet Cafes, I'll drop a line from 'on the road'...)
I'm off for (among other things) some midnight golfing! Be safe, everyone...and keep 'em jangling.
Oh, and once again...thank you, Geddy...

I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Bob, Ram Dass (sp) WAS Richard Alpert, Leary's cohort at Hravard. They were expelled together for their work with LSD-25, back in '63, I believe it was. He spells his adopted name with two "s"s to distinguish himself from the other Guru Ram Das (one "s") who lived in the 16th Century.
He suffered a stroke in '97 and has been struggling since trying to regain his speech and use of his right side.
He was the founder of the SEVA Foundation, which provided cornea transplants to third world clients in need. Their motto is "A Solution in Sight", and I have several of their T-shirts which I bought when I heard Ram speak back in '94.

Ras Baboo, you bird killer, is a studio percussionist who toured with Mr. Lindley ( THE ORIGINAL "old hippy!") and played on a set of instruments fashioned from pots, pans, old hubcaps, tin cans, etc., strung on a huge rack made of plumbing pipe. He's been floating and touring around for decades. Big smile and silk pajamas. Sort of a human cockatoo.

haha! Ram Das Ras babbooo, all the same to me. No seriously I know who Ram Dass is although I didn't know of the original one from the 16th century. I remember Timothy, Richard Alpert, Ken Kesey, Neil Cassidy, Merry Pranksters etc. I was a young hippy (well actually maybe a plastic one, but I tried hard.)I even hitched out to Haight Ashbury but was two years too late and missed it by two cities (San Diego 1969) when I was 16.
David Lindley is in the Smith Rickenbacker book I believe with a couple of old Ric steels.
