Was anyone else thinking Dark Side of the Moon?
Hmm... maybe that was just me. Nice bass tho. The FG really looks nice.

Welcome to The Dark Side. Be forewarned-Rickenbacker basses are contagious. Trust me.

Speaking of Dark Side of the Moon, "Money" sounds really cool on an s8.

Thanks again, guys. I put 'dark side' in the thread title because to me, bass is the 'dark side'. Mysterious, often big-framed hunks of meat twiddling their basses like they were mandolins!! Broody loners who love nothing more than rattlin' the springs in the snares and feeling the masses of air those huge 4 x 10 or 4 x 12 cabinets push out slappin' against the back of their thighs - better than a Swedish massage!!

Then there are guys like Jeff Scott. Finely tuned greyhounds whose stature is simply a disguise, hiding the beast within. Quietly spoken intellectuals who go ape s**t on stage! Faster than a speeding bullet but much more dangerous!

Then there are morons like me who write this twaddle!! Image

Congratulatons Howard. I suspect, given your preference for new instruments, that this is a recent model? Am I correct?

Thanks, Peter - and you are correct. April 2004 build but 'new' stock. That's not to say that I'm averse to older goodies. I'm having a look at a '91 350 Liverpool at the weekend.

I get it, poetic license huh? I hate to disillusion you Howard but a 4x10 is not a big cab by bass standards at least for those of us who play with a lot of bottom. They're very common in fact. I've done big rooms using two 8x10 SVT cabs, now those are big cabs and shake the whole room not just the back of your thighs. But the old front loaded horn double 15" cabs, Sunns, Acoustics, and V4-B's etc., now those things moved a lot of air, they were virtually inaudible onstage especially the Sunns, that didn't help either you had to be about 20-30 ft out on front of them to get the teeth vibrating full sonic assault.

I agree Bob, big is a pair of Acoustic 408's and a pair of 4x12's driven by either a pair of Orange OR140's, or Ampeg SVT's.

The 408's had a warning sign n the back for "Dangerous SPL withing 30ft."

I bow to your superior knowledge of all things bass, guys.

Yeah the early SVT heads had a warning too, something about dangerous SPL'S. That one's not that dark, I meant around the edge, I had a 98 fireglo that looked almost black at the edges and did not gradually change like those above did especially like Howards which is nice and gradual, it's almost pink, very pretty.

I'll try and post some better pics of the body on the weekend, Bob.

BTW, I took it back to the dealer last night - massive fret buzz. The neck had gone concave (or is it convex) overnight. Obviously the sudden changes in temperature - warm shop to cold car to warm house to cold car - knocked it completely out of whack!! I'm not prepared to mess about with them 'truss rod' thingys on a Rick yet. Image

I think SVT's say something like:

"WARNING - sound pressure levels may reach 130 dB in front of this amplifier and sustained exposure may cause hearing damage!"

And yeah, I LOOOOOOVE running two 8x10s - it's a blast! Literally.

Actually this one may give you a better idea - I took the shots in a hurry and didn't worry too much about the light but the colour is just about right. Hmmmm..... a bit of accidental poetry there - hurry, worry.... light, right. Image

Warning, …………..sounds like a challenge to me…..

(I said that to myself when I saw that on my 2 STV410HLF)
