I'll bet Highway Star and Space Truckin' sound great with an s8. Too bad I can't talk the band into doing one of them.

I'm trying to keep my "collection" 100% Ric
As much as we all love rics, thats just horrible dude.

Iv wanted to play an 8 string sence i well found out about them. I played a Alembic 8 string once. Other then the gay V body the bass had it was pretty kool. Something to get use to i suppose.

Green Day? I just cant take that band seriously. Way to simple. I learned that Holiday song for a friend.... the whole song takes place in one key. Horrible just Horrible. But thats personal Opinion.

"Green Day? I just cant take that band seriously"

But if it puts butts on the dance floor, then may as well play it.

So we play to get chics now huh? Nice... i thought of that as a bonus but okay. I just get bord playing stuff like that. When things get to simple i go insane.

I don't play to get chicks, especially when my wife's grandfather was a Mafia hit man. I'm no Geddy Lee, so simple(r) works for now. I'll get into the tricky stuff when my chops develop.

Well thats good i guess. You dont have to be Geddly Lee to play some good stuff. Do some RHCP's or something. Its not Geddy but its nice.

I don't have any slap technique yet, so getting some of Flea's stuff is tricky for me. I tend work along the Roger Glover style of playing.

I don't think "But if it puts butts on the dance floor..." says anything about playing to "get chicks". I'm sure what Ron meant was; at a club gig you're there to get people to dance, and when they dance they get thirsty, and when they get thirsty they buy the club's over-priced drinks, and when they buy the club's drinks the club makes money, and when the club makes money they give the band another gig.

"As much as we all love rics, thats just horrible dude."

There's nothing horrible about it. I've tried out or owned just about everything out there that I have run across. The Ric's I have, for me, are the best playing/sounding basses there are.
I didn't think my initial post through though. I'm not "trying" to keep it 100% Ric.....it just is. If Ric makes/made an 8 string and I'm in the market for an 8 string....then I'll get a Ric. (BTW....before I bought mine I had played Alembic, BC Rich and Hamer 8/12 stringers and while they were nice.....I was hoping to find a 4003s8). If they didn't make one then I'd look elsewhere. I needed a low B for some songs my band plays and Ric's 4003s5 is a problem for me to play (tight string spacing) so I strung a 4003 I had BEAD. Could I have bought another brand's 5 string? Sure.....but I wouldn't have the feel and tone that I like so much.
Am I clearer now?

Okay guys i wana say sorry. I think i may have came off in the wrong way. I dont think theres anything wrong with the all ric thing. I mean its whatever you like. Oh and Brain i dont know if you ever played any deans but the Q5 is kinda nice. At least i thought so. I havent played many 5s.

Ronn I didnt really think he was trying to get chics. I mean... your all a bunch of older guys. If your still playing you must just want to play cause you like it. No offense by the older comment. I much rather play with older people (remember im 16 so older if a wide range) then people my age.

Umm... i hope that was a little better. Im horrible with words, and even worse at saying what i mean in a nice way. Yeah but my bad. Sorry.

Now while it's true I met my wife at a gig(we celebrated our 2nd anniversary last month)I wasn't there to get chicks...it just happened Image
I also celebrated my 47 birthday last month. Oh, and my wife will be 25 in September, not bad for an "older guy". Image
Don't sweat it Jacob. Rock On.

No problem....I didn't take offense and I see how my post may have made it seem like I was closed minded to other brands.

I have been playing since you were -6 years old Image. That is painful for me to say and it is nothing against you (you young whippersnapper).....it's not like I am "older and wiser"..... just older and I have come to know what I like. Ahhhhh to be young again......
