I offered Paul my NOS 1960s lefty 4005 back when he was using other basses live, and he passed on it.

I agree David! The 4005 is too big for him. We probably won't see him live with anything other than the Hof any more. Glad I had the op to see him in 76 with his 4001S.

WOW Scott! wish I had the change for Macca to turn down one of my basses. Did he take/buy anything from you?

(As I put on my shields...)

I'm amazed ...

As I understand it, in the 1960's, Hofner made a (arguably) ****** copy of a Gibson bass. Macca bought one in Germany on the basis that it was cheap, and didn't look strange as a left handed instrument.

Now, because of the Macca connection, Hofner is producing and making a killing selling these things for thousands of dollars.

Quite a shame.

In all these years Paul has never bought anything from me directly, although he does own at least 5 guitars that used to be in my collection.

I was going to say he probably didn't take it because he would have had had to pay for it, haha!

Paul did buy a Wal 5-string bass though. So I guess he does pay for instruments on occasion!

It's not like he can't afford them! Image

I wonder how he came into that lefty 1960 Les Paul i've seen him use.

Surely the price must have been staggering for it - not sure if I could see him shelling out big for it.

I read somewhere that Linda bought the Les Paul as a gift also.

I think I heard him say once that a vintage lefty gold top Les Paul he has, was a gift from Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick. Most of the guitars he has now are gifts. Fame does have it's rewards.

Pittsburgh Guitars claims to have sold him an LP. They seem honest.
