I believe you are referring to the new Taylor T5 (?), which I agree is similar in size and general proportions to a 360F.
But as to sound? My comments still stand. State-of-the art humbucker/piezo combination vs. 45-year-old single coils.
Two different animals entirely. But the T5 does look intriguing and Taylor should be complimented for taking the plunge.

Just looking at the picture above posted by John Williams, it can be seen how the whole "plywood back" rumor got started. Both pieces of wood have a strikingly-layered grain pattern on their edges, which looks like plywood but isn't.

Oh Yes,they were plywood Paul. Most of them were Birch, some were Maple. The sides were made in a unique way: Alder was an inexpensive wood, so they used 8/8 or 6/4 pieces to cut out the rims, making a solid sided guitar. Violins were made this way sometimes. It's a way to make a curved side without the bending of the wood. When they switched to Maple, this is when they were hollowed out from the back.

John, it looks like you were in my back yard again. It looks like the back has suffered a crack and seperation looking at the side view of your picture.

Dale, unfortunately the guitar had 5 cracks in the body(!). The seller (a dealer) neglected to tell me that . I kept it anyway because it played well and had a great vibe. It also had the most figured neck that I'd ever seen. I'll have to post a pic of it.

PW, Right, I was querrying if anyone had a chance to play both the Taylor T5 and an F.... I had a chance to "Play" with one a bit last weekend and found it to be extraordinary and extremely accoustic without amplification... I do understand the "technological" difference in manufacturing and electronics advancement over the years..... Again just a querry to see if anyone had a chance to "compare"

Bill, she's old enough to be my mother...so I guess I'm living a bit in the past.
They of course re-created the room on a sound stage for the interior shots. Although it was a fairly large room, in the movie it's twice as large at least, although the windows and doors are all in the same places. And in the movie, "my" room was only the living room of a one-bedroom suite.

Dale, thats still a nice figured neck you have there. Back in '58 -59, Rickenbacker really had some nice looking wood.
