John,
interesting you mention a '79 4001 for weight
factor; I know a couple guys who have like '78 and '79 4001 basses, and Both are just[to me, anyway] ridiculously heavy! However, they sound really good, but especially after I "tricked them out" a bit.One of these 2 had some of the Worst mismatched set of stock elrctronics in them I've Ever heard in a Rick, and I persuaded the guy ,after letting him play my own V63, that he oughta spring for the vintage PU set. He did, and now all he does is rave.

Two things ...

First, we're not done yet; continuing with 4001CS week here on eBay,here's another one, the best priced yet!

Second, to Don,

I've got in work a pickup R&R on my Jetglo 4003S (mine really is one!), and I'm seeing ridges in the clearcoat where the old pickup surround and pickguard dug into the clear.

How would you deal with that?

Thanks for your help,
Garry

Garry,
I assume you mean the large chrome surround plate that the bridge PU hangs in?Depending on just how bad this plate dug into the clear, and assuming that the finish is not cracking or lifting off the wood, you could [a] ignore it, or possibly and Carefully wetsand and slightly level the problem area and repolish it.Unless it was Really, obviously visible and ugly, even With the plate mounted, I'd probably leave well enough alone.
