In general how much would it cost to get it refinished as fg? And how much trouble is it?

Yeah i talked to my teacher about it today. He said its a pain in the *** to refinish them. I guess i just gotta hold out until i find one. Thanks for the help tho.
I recorded a bit of a song i wrote today. On a 4001 ric. Its just a little sound bit so my singer can write lyrics to it. But the ric sounded so great

It depends on wether, and how well you are set up to do a refinish job.
I'd not in my wildest dreams attempt one. However I'd be fully confident in several Forum members who are more than capable of a professional quality refinish.

I vote for the 4003 for all the reasons Jeff Rath said. The burgundy 4001 is also a good choice if the price stays low.
I vote against the hassle of a refin. The photos aren't good enough to tell if it was hacked up when being stripped, if it was chemically stripped, if the truss rods are messed up, if the electronics were altered, if the pickups are weak, if the frets need work/replacement or if the fretboard popped. You may save a couple hundred bucks on the stripped 4001, but it will need at least that much in work and will never be as "original" as the 4003.
Also, the modern truss rods of the 4003 are WAY better and the Schaller tuners are superior as well.
I think we all agree that RIC quality in general was as good or better in the 90's than it was in the '70's. The 4003 looks to be in excellent shape and the neck is probably close to feeling as sweet as a 70's neck.

Jacob, Someone from Ann Arbor, MI contacted me yesterday about a 1975 4001 in mapleglow that wants to sell. He has had the bass for over 20 years and doesn't play any more. He's suppose to send me some pictures today, but he described the bass as beiing in pretty decent shape except for some buckle rash, and it come with the OHSC in great shape. He's thinking $700 something.
