If I bought that bass, being a refin anyway, I'd get that bass p/u back at 1/2, Strip it to MG and relacquer, put the original treble back in and most likely love it.
Not that I'd pay that much to do all that work, nor do I have a shred of that kind of $$ anyway!
I think I'll be quite content when I get Lindsay's '77 in my grubby little paws!

I contacted the seller and he admits a "pro" refin when he bought it four years ago. I'm awaiting electronics pictures as we speak. Can't slip anything past you guys!!

There was a genuine cream 73 on E bay a couple of years ago. It made about a little more than $1200 IIRC...Paul Yan had pics of it.
The rout underneath the guard is dark too. If it was originally white that would be far less visible I would imagine. Nice looking bass however, but as we agree, well overpriced.
But, this is E bay we're talking about....

In the late 70's some basses(maybe 4001-S models) were made that had a factory tint quite close to Squire's color. IIRC, John Hall stated that they were made for the European market (Germany?)...

Do you mean something like this?
This one is Gary Clauson's 1975 4001S.

Gary's could be one of them, yes...it has been some time since they were talked about, Gary may remember himself....if so his bass was possibly featured in the thread.

Thanks Marshall for confirming the refin. Too nice for a 1970s white yellowed to be sure.
Gary's bass is sure good looking.

I bought the '75 from the original owner, a RIC dealer back in the day (the seller was in Wyoming at the time I bought it, but I don't know where he was located when he was a RIC dealer). The story he related was that he ordered the bass directly from RIC for his own use. Fortunately for me, he hardly ever took it out of the case. The color is uniform, even under the pickguard; I have some pictures at home that I'll post later today.
