I like LaBella Deep Talking Bass steel flats. They sounds great, and are low tension without feeling floppy. They are fat sounding, and have a nice crisp highend. I've always suspected they were the flats Ric used to use.

I love D'Addario XLs, but never liked Chromes. The sound was too inconsistent from string to string. D'Addario halfrounds are good.. well the original ones, not the newer ones.

I use Chromes in a custom light set (40-55-75-95). I buy the super soft set and replace the .060 D string with a single .055 string which makes the set more balanced, tensionwise, as the D string in the set is higher in tension than the other strings. I find this to be true with a lots of string sets. The tension is about the same as the TIs but have a smoother feel to them and is less pricy also.
