Don't those pickups on the American Jazz deluxes have that style, they are called humless or something like that but are not humbucking pickups.

Schaller used to make 4-conductor, humbucking Jazz Bass pickups: coil one for the 1st and 2nd string, coil two for the 3rd and 4th string. Pretty neat. And they had adjustable polepieces.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
