That's OK. I have no proof -- just a faded memory. With the Internet, I'm sure that if there was a pic, it would be posted somewhere.

Jeffery: I checked some old tour schedules I found online and Genesis played Cleveland one day after they played in 1976, so you're probably right. (Unless someone stole the 4005 that night

) Doesn't matter - he still played very interesting bass lines.

I've often wondered about Lamb...some of it sounds "ricky", some of it doesn't. The most obvious Rick bass sounds IMO Genesis has is "The Battle of Epping Forest" and "Return of the Giant Hogweed".

The Lamb was played on a Micro-frets 6-string bass, the one that was "coupled" with a Rickenbacker 12-string for the tour.

Mike's double neck coupled a Micro-Fret 6 string baritone bass with a 12 string semi-acoustic Rickenbacker guitar.

Watchers of the Sky is very "ricky" sounding...

I saw Genesis on the lamb tour. I seem to remember Mike playing a 4001 and the double neck Shergold/Hayman thing.

But Lord, it was a long time ago!

looks like a double neck MicroFret, although the guitar has toasters, it's not a Ric.

Mike had the two doubleneck Ric styles as far as I can tell - a stock 4080 Ric with 4 string bass neck on the bottom (pictured in the original page of this thread) and the Microfret, which was a six string bass (or baritone) and a 12 on top. Too bad no one has Mike's e-mail or he could settle everything for us.

Mike never had a stock 4080, his Rick doubleneck was put together from two guitars and he used that on "Selling England By The Pound" tour. Wasn't 4080 (and 4080/12)introduced in 1975?
His Micro-Frets doubleneck was a similar "put together" job and that axe was used on "The Lamb" and "Trick" tours. David, I'm afraid Mike didn't use Shergold guitars until "Wind & Wuthering" (1977).

A Genesis tribute band The Musical Box has painstakingly recreated old Genesis shows, even down to building similar doublenecks for the bass player. Similar, except the guy is left-handed!:D

A side topic to this thread about double-necks, Either Alex Lifeson or Geddy Lee is quoted in the authorized Rush biography 'Contents Under Pressure' that the first 4080 was made for them...it may be the first 4080/12 they're referring to, dunno the whole story...

Nope...my 4080/12 was made before Geddy's...(okay, it's not mine anymore)...the first band I was in played several Genesis covers which couldn't have been done convincingly without a 4001 (among other thingswe had, like a guy who could sound exactly like PG...or Derek Shulman!) We did Watcher of the Skies, The Lamb...I got the 4080 because we needed it to play Cinema Show. But the tune that was most 'Ricky' for me was Can Utility and the Coastliners...lots of 'plectrum'ed' sixteenths...hubba, hubba...

Just listened to that song a few hours back...I love the part where he switches from pedals'n'12-string to that great picked mini-solo.
