Reference Gene Pitney, it is my belief that he actually only played Piano on one track "Little by Little" and he is credited in some quarters as playing macaras on "Not Fade Away".

With regard to the main thread, what about Dion Dimucci? Would he qualify as a teen idol that was knocked out by the British mop-top wave?

Certainly in the US you could, his hits virtually stopped after 63, here in UK though his last hit was 62 so you could argue that with the mop -top wave is chances were slim to zero as they say of having another hit.

Dion had a huge hit here during the late 60's with "Abraham, Martin, and John," but that was the only one I remember and "Come back when you grow up Girl" Bryan Hyland, was also a very big hit here. You still hear it a lot on the oldies stations.

Yes he did Bob November 68 made number 4 but it was his first top 20 hit since 63 and he has not had another since. Come Back When You Grow Up was Bobby Vee made number 3 in August 67, again his last hit in states had been in 63, same situation as Dion never has another top 20 since.

This tends to support the thread topic that these artists careers, in terms of commercial record sales success, were diminished by the beat boom.

I agree Roy, the beat boom avenged the war of 1812, haha! Many many artists lost their careers for the most part or at least their chart dominance besides the teen idols.

Roy you're bang on as usual. Richard vs Richards yep that was a slip in terms of getting my brain to coordinate with my keyboard. It was not an intentional mistake on my part. Peter is right too, the tactic did not work. When I was a teenager in England I remember vividly the controversy that surrounded Cliff. He was always compared to Elvis. Most in my area thought that Cliff was infinitely better.
