Leftbass: Right you are John. My 450/12 from 1966 also came with a silver case that closely resembles this one.

Whilst on the subject of cases, my 1974 Jetglo 4001 bass (serial number NF 3827) also came in a similar black HSC with bright red lining. I bought the bass used in 1994 from a local policeman who is a friend of mine and a guitar collector. Oddly, he is not that fond of Rickenbackers, which is why he let this bass go. Interestingly, it has RED, not black, neck side markers. Was (is) this common? I had (have) never seen red side markers on a Rickenbacker. Anyone?

I don't know if I'd say red side dots are "common", but they Were used, even back in the 50s and 60s. A friend of mine bought a new Mapleglo 4001 in '74-'75, and His had Green side dots!!All said, Black is the "norm" for side dots on a white-bound fingerboard.

This is very disappointing! I was watching this one closely and was ready to make a move on it. It would have been a very nice mate for my V63! How could anyone perform such an act! Oh well - my wife is happy!

Don , my 12 string had red dots .
Bil would go buy rolls of the stuff and some times the company would be out of stock of the black PVC material .
We used Blue,Red , green , Brown instead of black .
In 1976 we even had a guy that kept installing three dots at the 12th fret .... these would get a blue and red dot scheme .
I have since seen all of these color .But not since 1985.

Mark; Yeah, I remember that, too. I had a Fireglo
'65 360-12 doublebound that had them, too.Seemed to be a more common sight on Fireglo instruments.

I know I have seen at least two Mapleglo 4001 basses with Red side dots. Both were early 70s models, if I remember correctly...
