You can try www.ricpage.com and www.pickofthericks.com but since they are not made anymore you may have to wait a little while. About six months ago they were popping up pretty regularly on Ebay so that cycle may come around again. Keep checking in here as well.

I scored my '98 s8 from the Dudepit Forum "for sale" section. It was $1350 (shipped) in excellent condition and luckily I just happened to see it right after it got posted......there are still deals to be had! Good luck and just be patient.

Jared and Brian - do you have neck stability issues with those s8's? I've read some horror stories about s8's warped necks unable to sustain the extra string pull.

Brian: I remember that from the 'Pit... it was a great deal.

A 4003s8 or a 4004Cii8 would make an excellent companion for my Dean Rhapsody 8! 8's and 12's are awesome! I may have to get me one of those 10's, too.

I had a 4003s8-no neck issues at all. Mine had a fair old neck on it though. Fantastic bass, I loved it. I played a Dean 8 last week with high expectations and IMHO it was nowhere near as good as the Rick, and that's not just bias talking!

No neck stability issues here either. Mine is only 7 years old so maybe it tends to happen later in life.

The neck is somewhat beefier than a standard 4003 so hopefully it will not be an issue. When I first got it the action was a tad high for my tastes and it took some patience to get it where I want it but it has been rock solid ever since.

I've never played an 8-string Rick, never even seen one. The inverted string setting and the 4 saddle bridge bugs my a little, 'though. Are those an issue? The string conversion should be an easy one and some of the owners have apparently done it.

I love octave string basses. I have two 12-strings: Hamer CH-12 and Waterstone TP-12. The Waterstone is an outstanding instrument.

I own an 80's version of the 4008 with the "correct "string set up, the octave string to the left of the fundemental string. This string set up makes much more sense to me. The neck is straight as an arrow, round, thin, and a dream to play. The bass sounds like a freight train. I use very light strings 30-90 and 15-45 for the octave strings.No neck stability issues on mine.

If I could only get my hands on one, I'm sure I would love it!
