Thanks, Rob. I'm going to be doing David Coyle's restoration--now ageing nicely, thank you...in a redder antique Autumnglo, beginning early next week. I'll post as usual.

I just completed wiring the 325 to my own scheme. Two knobs, three pickups, one switch. There is an amazing variety of sounds possible with this setup. Playing with the knobs and switches yields very intriguing sonic benefits.

I actually find I prefer it to the 5-knob configuration of my newer Ricks, which I tend not to fool with and just use either one pickup full on, or the other, or both, and control the rest with the amplifier settings.

I'll post on that topic, too. I let my guts steer me on this quicky restoration/renovation/whatever, and I'm loving the results.

A couple years back Sonic Youth had most of their gear they had used for years stolen at a gig. A friend of mine, Saul Koll from Koll Guitars (www.kollguitars.com) had worked on their instruments in the past and was very familiar with the mods to them, so he made a couple custom guitars for them and recreated some of the mods they had done. They very well could have been using these instruments at the show you saw.

Man! the amount of guitars they had at the side of the stage when I saw them....that is one BIG thief!

Quick question: Does anybody know if a Jazzmaster will fit into the case of a V'64....?

Absolutely not. The Jazzmaster can neither fill the boots nor the case of ANY Rickenbacker.

And don't bother buying any "fits-all" case out there. You're stuck with either a nice gig bag or a special Fender case. The Jazzmaster is the longest guitar Fender ever made, except for the XII. Fortunately, Fender cases do turn up on eBay to fit these, every once in awhile.

There is something magical about a Fender Jaguar. I don't see them that often, but when I do they take my breath away!

I remember seeing my first "Antigua" in about 1970, and thinking it was, er, unique.

Since then, probably because they were so butt-ugly, they became rare and some people actually started collecting them, driving prices up.

Fender, never one to miss an opportunity to trade upon their past, illustrious or not, reissued them.

You can grab this one on eBay for about $700.00. It's an unplayed (unloved?) '03.

I picked that Jazzmaster up on the weekend by the way. I'll probably replace the pickups for SD's once she's settled in, but I'm pretty pleased with it so far - after a strip, thorough clean and set-up that is...

I really like the control set up too.

The control setup is supposedly the brainchild of Forrest White, Leo's right-hand man during the formative years at Fender. He built a steel guitar in 1941 with separate circuits for lead and rhythm, able to be individually controlled and selected with the flick of one switch.

The grey doesn't look quite the same as the old antiguas to me. It looks like grey primer -but it is just one picture. For so long I've pined for a Fender Coronado, but every one I've played has been a complete dog, leading me to believe ...well... that ALL Coronados are dogs. Point is a lot of antigua-finished Cories pop up in auctions.

My bandmate John actually likes the finish. Of course, he has a pink Ovation electric too.

Ahhh...the collection is growing. And I still haven't got the Rick 12 I've promised myself for Christmas - what a fantastic way to waste money!
