Sorry, I was just making a joke, I forgot about the "hatred".

He is pompous, self-important, self-loving, well past his prime, artificial, conceited, and left-handed. Wait, did I already say all this?

Also add, it's fun to make fun of Saint Paul, not only because it's so easy, but also it kinda shows how old we all are. Back in, say, 1964 (or 1975 in my case), it would have been a lot of fun to take aim at the established icons...much like that young band from Liverpool did.

But...now that THEY are the entrenched icon, what fun is that???? Lighten up; I doubt that Sir McCartney reads this Forum. And even if he did, I doubt that he wants to be friends with those who defend every move he makes.

I do plan to buy the album. Look forward to it.

Speaking of old, Bowie appeared on stage with Arcade Fire. Time for the new blood to replace the old.

Well, that is difficult, granted. Mainly because we all elevate the music (and basically everything else) from our youth so high, nothing will compare. No-one cooks like Mom...maybe not mine, but regardless.

Mainstream radio has long ignored the musicians/bands that still attempt to push the envelope or play for the joy of it. These bands cover a wide variety of genres, but you won't hear them on FM or most places music is "sold". Arcade Fire is one example. Not my favourite, but you MIGHT like it if you're into 1967 Beatles.

My personal favourite, the Jayhawks, you MIGHT like if you're into Rubber Soul...and so on and so on.

Other posters no doubt could contribute other bands.

As said, I look forward to hearing the new McCartney album, but also recognize that time marches on and you can enjoy the old with the new.

Bassically he was. The story goes that he recorded his first solo album, and at a press conference they asked "so have the Beatles broken up?" (or "are you leaving the Beatles?") and Paul answered "Yes"

I still like him though.

He's such an easy target, having been the highest of the high. And he still tries to maintain a high profile. So he'll be knocked not only for his product, but for having the gall to age, and not writing the songs he wrote in his 20's. But hey, his job and his love is music, so why insist he retire? If I loved my job as much as I love music, I'd work until I died. Thank goodness I hate my job.

The songs that I've heard by the Jayhawks are very good (have they broken up/gotten back together?)

I can't stand the "alternative" L.A. radio station owned by clearchannel that plays the same sounding predictable cliched bands.

I personally think the best new music is the DIY artists utilizing the internet. That includes McGuinn, as well as youngsters and a few forumites, doesn't it?

Jerry, you surprised me. After hearing you play all those old tunes at the Socal Con., I was surprised to hear the volume of your band!

Music is apparently the only 'job' you can have that you can become worse at over time and get paid more...outside of 'politics', of course.

There are a lot of great bands putting out work these days...we all have our favorites; I particularly like Stereolab, Pell Mell, Modest Mouse, Mouse on Mars...I just don't have room in my budget to purchase work by a guy who used to be great, but now comes across like the "Upper Class Twit Of The Year"...

That doesn't mean I 'hate' him, though...it's cool to continue to love and respect him for the good work he did in the past, and life's too short to be hatin' anyone...

Well said. I don't hate McCartney; he's just fun to pick on.

I think people get too wrapped up in the beatle Macca thing,we all are or were beatle fans or macca fans....but to live on his every word or action is ridiculous, thats obsessive,i could care less who broke the Beatles up ,they broke up ,get on with it,McCartney is just a man that makes music nothing more or less,some of it good some bad.

Also totally agree with these statements. Very unfortunately, most "alternative" music has now become boring, predictable, stale testosterone rock. Misses the point entirely.

Gotta go buy the new McCartney album now, even though it's raining out. Where are me boots?
