Ken, you’re spot on! I said this a couple a weeks ago with the frenzy of the 4005. Exuberance is the word. I think you’ve nailed it perfectly with your examples of the V63 and the 68-V63. We need to be smarter. Don’t be so excited and try to be the first one to post a good find. I think Wints said it best. You’ll know about it when I close the deal. Let's cut out the Oh Mommy ****…

I almost lost my 4005 to someone who is mostly lurker, sometimes poster( I think). Unfortunately for him, CME has ethics and went with a sure good customer, rather than someone who just offered them some more bucks...

" mentioned previously that nearly 2 years ago, CME had a '67 4005/6 for $7K, and now the one everyone here knows about at Southworth Guitars costs $12,600, up from the original price of $10,600 (which was raised after I showed possible interest in it!)"

Jim, I believed they raised the price because of the $19,000 4005/8 showing up.. I could be wrong

One of the other possibilities here Dave is that someone posts a rare bass for sale, a dozen of us call on it, even though we're really not ready to buy it...The dealer may think he's not asking enough.

I agree, Marc....there are MANY vintage guitar/Ric dealers that peruse this forum regularly, but very rarely post. They know what is going on....

Andy...the ohhs and ahhhs will probably never stop as long as pictures can be posted and we can see them...it's just the nature of the beast...I've ooh-d and ahh-d at your '85 I don't know HOW many times.... Image

Dave - "Jim, I believed they raised the price because of the $19,000 4005/8 showing up.. I could be wrong" - you'd have to ask Gil that, since he's the owner of the shop. I spoke with his assistant Mike when I called them about it back in early August.
4005's are the best!

how about having a locked topic/group - so only members can read that one - but leave the other topics, where you dont mind lurkers i.e. where they can read all the great info you guys know, open.

So a topic like 'Ric notices' here info on the ones that ppl have spotted is for registered users only - or even better where users who've posted at least 10times can gain access
Tell me does it feel the same when you've set upon a change but your heart's in the old times?

I know Chris - it’s difficult to hold back. There are so many that get posted here that I just feel like shouting about but I try to reframe – particularly those that are up for sale. I just think we are our own worst enemy - but I don’t have an answer either.

After all that is what this forum is about – to talk about and admire Rickenbackers!

At the same time we shoot ourselves in the foot.

I too don't have an answer ,only to log in when on the forum and have a list off to the side who's logged on.

Yeah....I've been on forums where you can see who is logged on down at the bottom....maybe something like that would help? I don't know....
