Steve,
The original intent was posted at the bottom of this forum. I thought I had read it somewhere.
"Welcome to Clough's Classics. Roy Clough, has agreed to act as a consultant to The Rickenbacker Forum with regard to Clough's Classics. The focus of Clough's Classics is on the music of the late 1950s and 1960s and not on amplifiers or instruments. For these latter areas of discussion the interested participant is encouraged to use the Rickenbacker or Others' Topics. You can contact Roy directly at
[email protected]."

I just read the whole introduction and there is no mention of which side of the pond the discussion was to be focused on.
I must have read that somewhere else.
But then again Roy is from Yorkshire and did not ever appear to reside on this side of the Atlantic, so I would take it that his knowledge if we are to make some use of it would be more slanted towards the British scene. Make sense?

Yes, you're right Brian. I've done a horrible thing. Guilty as charged. Are you by any chance an attorney?

Roy is the one to set the tone here. While not directly stated in the introduction perhaps, it makes perfect sense to me that the music is more about the British Invasion. Even the Invasion was shaped by performers from the US.
Disappearing posts should not be a mystery. If it becomes a heated issue of politics, sex or religion there is a very good chance that the thread will begin to offend others. It is on that basis that threads are removed.

Steve,
You did nothing wrong in my mind. The points raised in your initial post were valid from your perspective; and no I am not an attorney at law.
I do concede that my style of writing does on occasion give people that sort of impression. You are not the first to question my line of work in that regard. I do in fact have a contract formation/contract management background in heavy construction and in the oil patch.
However, these days I own a small consulting firm. We specialize in stakeholder consultation, public consultation, public relations, project management in the energy sector and Aboriginal affairs, traditional land use etc.
I occasionally write copy for advertisements, public offerings, private placements and press releases as well.
There you have it. Now you know as much about me as I do.

Nonsense, Brian.
You know more about you than that.

Ok! let me rephrase slightly:
"Now you know as much about me as I am willing to share".
How's that?
Too funny. I can't seem to get away with anything with you Paul.

Okay- at the risk of being brow-beaten, all you guys look at the table of contents under CLOUGH'S CLASSICS and count the threads that have nothing to do w/ the British Invasion. There are many! If you're gonna 'enforce 'it in my case, enforce it in your own.

No argument from me there. When ever you try to regain purity in any form there are always those who take offense.
Steve, I along with many others are guilty of posting off topic too.
Like I said before you did nothing wrong in my books.

What's wrong, what's right. Things in threads do one of four things:
They Peter out.
They morph into more timely topics which sometimes turn into nonsense prose.
They are pulled because somebody has been or is likely to be offended. (God Bless Canada, Peter!)
I forgot the fourth...
Was this post off-topic?
Did it offend anybody?
Does anybody feel brow-beaten?
Are you willing to share?

I think everyone would agree a discussion board on pop music is not particularly important in the big picture, and certainly no reason to get huffy. The thread was originally '1966 BEST YEAR FOR POP MUSIC' and was getting interesting when out of cyberspace Brian posts, 'I agree, let's stick to early 60s British invasion topics here.'
What??? Agree w/ whom? Did i miss a post or something? Any interested parties hit the 'back' button and see for yourself.
No one appreciates their thoughts being dismissed, especially when there are many other 'off topic' threads in plain sight. So I called him on it. That's all. No big deal.

I think a post that I saw early was edited and of course my response now looks out of place. Or perhaps I had a daymare. At my age that happens too.
Steve 99.9% of your initial post was bang on topic. I was merely thinking of Roy. We always seem to wander off into music that we are all familiar with here in North America and leave him behind without anything to contribute in his own section.
OK so maybe I inadvertently killed a thread by posting a quick comment. That happens too. I was not dismissing your initial post. My comment was not even directed at your post.
But hey if you prefer to think that I was being over bearing then so be it.

I used to moderate a forum that was music related and the view I used then is still the way I feel: It's (insert name here)'s forum. He sets the rules and if you don't like the rules or even if he enforces them unevenly, you can leave. This comment is not pointed at anyone in particular here, but at those who labor under the false impression that they have the (name your favorite deity)-given right to post anything they please anywhere, on any subject, whether it be homophobic, racist or flat out obscene, without fear of being chastised. I used to argue long and hard with a few posters (but one in particular) who insisted on pushing his point of view on everyone. If anyone disagreed, they were wrong. He peppered everything with profanity, used every topic to push his political agenda, took a few swings at sexuality and set himself up as all-knowing master on (insert subject here). Finally, the board owner shut him off. Naturally, he called us Nazis. Men like Peter and Roy deserve massive thanks for being willing to wade through the stuff we throw at them.

Thanks Dave,
I totally agree with your point of view. Hopefully we can get this thread back on Steve's original topic which IMO was a good one.

Yep. There are Forums for obscenity elsewhere.
Mind, I don't know where, but I'll know where when I see it...
