Well I just played for 5 minutes on it. I currently don't own any Ric, but i wanna buy one, so i went to that store for that white one. Is it a rare bass or something? That store is pretty close to my house. Anyway that bass is already a few months for sale in that store..

Yes, it's rare. It's just a shame it had been refinished. That takes a lot of value away from it. I e-mailed the owner yesterday asking for more details and pictures telling him I would very interested in buying.

Can you remember how it played? How high the action? Any breaks or repairs to the neck or headstock etc..

Well it was the first time i played a real Rickenbacker. I only remembered that the sides of the neck didn't look very good. The bass is certainly not in mint condition. But as I said i just played it 5 minutes, so I hope he will send you more detailed pics, so you can look for yourself.

Offtopic: Im sorry, but English isn't my first language, so i'm sorry if i sound rude or anything Anyway it's nice there is a Rickenbacker forum. Ill tell my dad about it, he has and had several Ric guitars..

Your English is far, far better than my Dutch, which is practically nothing....and I have spent many days there in the last 20 years! It's a difficult language to get your tongue around...

I'll see what I get back. And if I'm not imposing on you, could I possibly ask you a few more questions, if I feel I need a first hand view? It doesn't have to be mint, but certainly sound in the problem spots like the neck, truss rods and a couple more areas.

I've expressed a desire to purchase the 4003S, I used one for several gigs exactly like it, great basses.

The rogue inlay on the 4001, what is it? Most odd.

I think that white one may be one of the 'fakers.' I've seen that square block before. Also the bridge pup looks like the 'faker pups I've seen. The crushed pearl doesn't look right, either. See if it has two truss rods.

The pick up is the transistional green bobbin. I have one in my 68 and bought a spare last year.

Better pics will tell, but if it has a 70 jackplate and 21 frets, it probably is original.

That squared "inlay" wouldn't happen to be a very 'aesthetically placed' price tag, would it?

No, gentlemen, the 21 fret 4001 at issue is the genuine article. Don't be misled by that 'price tag' or 'owner's name label' or whatever that white thing at the 21st fret is. Much like a fake screams 'fake!', that 21 fretter screams 'legit!'. I have two such 4001 basses, so there's no way that white one is a fake. Grab it, someone, and become a member of the 21 fret 4001 owner's club.
