Someone's got more cash than me. Bids are at $1725 now thanks to me. I just thought I'd try anyway. That was my first experience with the bay. What I really NEED is a new 4003 to slap a 4-2-5 conversion on.

Kevin, talk to Jeff Rath he would probably find you the bass and do the conversion for you.

I should be responsible and wait 'til after XMas, but it's getting harder to do every day. I've got a cheap Peavey 5 string right now, which isn't bad at all really, but I love my Ricks.
Need more...must have...doubleneck...too!
Besides, our soundguy hates 'em so he turns me down all the time, & a new Rick 5'er would irritate him a little more (or it might just cure him-who knows?).

Musician's Friend lists a JG 4003 due in around December. That's what I'm really gassing for. Love the JG.

Kevin, if you are playing an older 4001 or 4003, you (and your soundman) will be amazed at the sound of the newer ones, tons of bottom end. Jeff does good work, I can vouch for him, having played almost all of his conversions at one time or another.

It was an Ibanez... a doubleneck version of the Bob Weir model they made with the 'Tree of Life' fingerboard inlay.

Very fancy. Very nice.

I saw one on eBay not too long ago... seems they wanted something in the neighborhood of $4K for it. Don't remember if it actually sold.

My 4001 is a '77 & kind of dull sounding compared to my '76 4000, which can be very bright. The prob with the soundguy is he keeps telling me my signal is too hot & wants me to turn my bass down to about 7 or 8 & turn the amp up. I've tried direct signal, miking the cab, a combo of direct & mike, & still the same deal. I think he's getting too much "fresh air" if you know what I mean. I've never heard of anything like that before.

Woo hoo!!! I'm the high bidder on the 4080 at $2800(so far). Still 5 days left though. Strangely, the wife is okay with this. I guess she knows how much I'd love to have one.

Kevin, If you win it, my wife is starting a support group. Perhaps your better half will join.
I fear your wife is in denial for now... Image
