Thanks for clearing this up for me. It's great to have a network of Rickenbacker 'experts'!
Show him the shirts, Adrian.

John, Al, Tracy et.al.: I know that David McLaughlin's 1960 310 has a plywood back(on a maple body), but I had always thought the '58 325's had something other than a plywood back; I had heard birch was used....Glen or Larry?

John, my '58 325 has a plywood(3 ply) back. It is 1/8" thick so those plys are really thin. I wonder if they made it that thin for resonance, but then made it 3 ply to add strength to such a thin back? The outer plys are alder as I can see both of those(on the back and through the sound-hole), but it's very hard to tell what the middle ply could be.

Yeah, David's '60 310 is a VERY acoustic, loud guitar even when it's not plugged up. On the 325C58 it looks as though they used solid wood in the back, but the weight is still in the 5 lb. area. I know alot of the 1958 guitars (David's 1958 360/365F is one) have plywood backs, but I was curious as to what your 325 in particular was constructed of....Thanks man.. Image

Larry, my dear friend; would you be able to post a closeup of the edge of your 325C58? I might be able to distinguish the inner layer of the ply of your Ric. I'd also love to look at your guitar! Thanks, AL A.
