Sorry Ken,

That one flew right over my head. You don't like Rick James or you don't like my bass or?

Yeh I do that from time to time. Thinking out loud in a cryptic fashion. Too funny.

As I mentioned I was really looking for a JG and this one came up so I bought it. The price was right and the color has really grown on me.

I love that color its like an off white,Are your markers on the side of the neck look kinda brown instead of black?

They're sort of a brown. It almost looks like the markers are through to the fret board. Also the white neck binding only partially covers the fret board so it looks like I have a brown stripe down the side of my neck.

So, since this is turning out to be a "post a pic of your white Ric" thread... here's my '73 - with Plexi TRC and ½-inch spacing (this is an old pic - she now wears a toaster in the neck position):

The Rick James (RIP) reference is from Chappelle's Show I believe!

Ilan, How did you get the colour back to clean white again? She looks fantastic!

Yes Kevin, it was from Chappelle's Show. "What did the five fingers say to the face?" <slap!>

That's a beauty Ilan,

Do you like to toaster better? If so, what is the major difference?

"Ilan, How did you get the colour back to clean white again? She looks fantastic"

It all depends on the lighting... with flash it looks yellower than it actually is. In fact she hasn't yellowed much. Other 70's white Rics I've seen were yellower. But still she isn't snow-white, more like off-white. At least the discoloration is even. The pic that I posted is more or less the real hue.

"Do you like to toaster better? If so, what is the major difference?"

Yes I do! When I bought the bass it had a 4003 Hi-Gain in the neck position. At first I looked for a toaster to replace it, then I decided that I like the Hi-Gain, and then Music 123 had the toasters at $50 and free shipping, so I thought I'd give it a try. The toaster is more "transparent" sounding, in lack of a better word, not as "thick" as the Hi-Gain. I prefer it this way. It also sounds better in the middle switch position, with the bridge pickup.

Another advantage are the 6 polepieces, when you bend strings there's no loss of volume like there is with a 4-polepieces pickup.

I'm negotiating buying another '73 now, it has neck button-top, I know I'll replace it with a toaster. Should have bought 2 when I could!
