Sorry... I've arrived far too late to this thread...logged in last night and didnt spot it. Yes....this is indeed the one we had discussions about previously. It is the real thing with no horseshoe and a (albeit very good) neck repair otherwise its in good nick.. The neck is straight and plays well. A full description is in my previous threads under basses and appraisals. We had a couple of offers from forum members, but the man selling is not well off and he needs to raise as much as he can. £6500 translates to a lot of dollars for US colleagues, but talking to folk over here, it's probably a reasonable price for the UK. There are certainly dealers over here who would charge the earth to an ardent beatles fan. Lets see how it goes and I'll tell the man who owns it to attend to those pesky string ends...

I'm no Beatles historian, so who took care of the gear in those days. Seems from what I've read, Paul really isn't into gear, so there must have been a tech or two with the group. I know he's got an assistant now that he's had for many years. With the late Beatles/Wings Rick, is it Paul doing the "mods" and who's kept the Hofner going throughout?

... and now I ve seen the pic above, we wont trim the strings, to retain that extra feel of authenticity : ))

As far as Beatle guitar techs go, Mal took care of the instruments AFAIK. To what extent I don't know, but there is that scene in "Let It Be" where Lennon gets on Mal about the instruments not only having to be tuned, but that they need to be in tune with each other. There are photos of Mal setting out the guitars at concerts, and Lennon(IIRC)handing Mal his guitar as he's leaving the stage at Shea.

I was guessing it was Mal Evans as well, Ronn, but not sure if he did it all, or if he was just Ringo's guy.

That neck profile is very flat. That was the first thing that struck me when looking at the pix originally...
It could be factory....
You just never know with these basses...
