Billy Sheehan is amazing! And a Buffalo native to boot! Hehe. I saw him play with Talas up close once.. he kicked ***! Free concert. I guess he dropped one of his basses, so he switched to another. I love how he uses all four fingers on his right hand.

I dunno if I'm that good.

I think DT is kind of sterile so I don't think I'll learn any of that.

I like Yes. I find them a little sterile.. but not as bad as DT.. hell, Rush is sterile sometimes too.

Yeah I have a high speed connection. The only problem is we have bandwith restrictions down here.. 5 gb of stuff per month.. that's not that bad, but if you were to download alot of stuff you'll have to pay extra.

I like some of your stuff Sean.

Let me clarify -- EARLY Yes. Up to and maybe including "Close to he Edge."

the problem with Yes is they mellowed out with age ... they lost the edge on their music ... But is is fun to watch Steve Howe do lightning fast jazz rock riffs ... and I like that Green bass Chris Squire plays ...

I saw them last year.. Howe seemed sloppy. Squire's green bass the triple neck Wal copy were pretty cool.

That's why Rush is amazing ... they have kept their edge even though they are in their 50s ...

Nate...try some of the avant Italian bands from the 'prog' days: PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi), Banco (Banco del Mutuo Socorso), Arti e Mystieri...there are others I can't think of right now, but those are the big three, in my opinion. Excellent bass playing throughout.

I'll echo the King Crimson recommendation and add Gentle Giant. Rush always had a little bit too much 'edge' for me...but maybe it was just Geddy's voice...

What's wrong with Geddy's voice? Image
If you listen to stuff like Hold Your Fire.. Ged's voice is beautiful.

Gonna get a pen and write all of this down.

I am a major Rush fan ... but I have to admit sometimes Geddy's voice is kind of shrill ... but I love him singing with the Mackenzie brothers ... Take Off ... a beauty way to go ...

Now yer talkin', eh? The Mackenzie Brothers did indeed help Geddy 'take the edge off'...

I love Ged's voice.. shrill screech or not. I love his scream. The Fountain of Lamneth, 2112, Cygnus X-1, Freewill.. just to name a few. Hehe. Geddy's singing style is great. I love his emphasis on one word.. like "Closer to the HEART!" Or (From The Pass) "Turn around and WALK the razor's edge." Need Some Love: "I said I need some LOVE!"

When he started to sing softer.. just sent chills up my spine.

"Geddy, did our laywer call you?"
"10 bucks is 10 bucks, eh?"
