Oh and I find Ged's solo album better than alot of 90's Rush. Beats the hell out of "Roll the Bones", "Test for Echo" and "Vapor Trails". I didn't mention "Counterparts" because that album is one of their best IMHO.
My Favorite Headache! Buy it!

I actually really liked "Vapor Trails". It's mixed pretty poorly, but if you're just looking at it from a song perspective, I actually think it's in their top 6 or so best. I'm just waiting for the remastered version, and then it'll be perfect . . .
"Roll the Bones" is definitely hit or miss. Sometimes I want to hear the album, sometimes I just don't. Same with "Test For Echo", though I think that, overall, that's a better album than "Roll the Bones".
And yeah, Geddy's solo album is very good. And, *gasp*, it's NOT one giant bass solo!

Hahahahah!
I like a few songs from "Vapor Trails".
"Ceiling Unlimited"
"Ghost Rider"
"Vapor Trail"
"One Little Victory"
I find T4E kinda sterile and boring. They just got rocking again with "Counterparts" and they go and wuss out on the next album.
RTB is ok.. but boring. The instrumental is laughable. And if I listen to that CD I skip the first three songs. Those songs are always played live, and I'm sick of them.
These is from the R30 tour book. The Grace Under Pressure pages. That's not a mullet? Al and Ged had mullets and Neil had that damn rat tail.

Actually, you're right. I must have changed the "Grace Under Pressure" album picture in my head . . . that's definitely a mullet, though I think it pales in comparison to the likes of Billy Ray Cyrus. Man, his mullet could wipe out civilization as we know it!
"Vapor Trails" was, for me, the first album since "Power Windows" where I like EVERY song on the album. Obviously, I prefer some over others, but I really never find myself skipping any of them. I especially like "Freeze" . . . that's some crazy bass playing there . . . and I always wondered why they never play the song "Vapor Trail" live . . . it's so good . . . but then again, so is "Secret Touch", which they decided to play on both the Vapor Trails tour and the 30th Anniversary Tour.

Billy Ray's mullet was over a foot long!
Power Windows is crazy bass. Only thing that bothers me is all the keyboards.. makes it harder to do live. Every song has that move that I've only heard him do. You know.. the sound in "The Big Money"
"Big Money underground!"
de-do-de-do-DA-DA-DEH-dum-dum... heheheheh. Only way I could explain it.. hum the song while reading that and you'll understand.
I want to parody that song...
"Big Mullet goes around the world!" I need to sit down and actually think it out.
I've only listened to "Vapor Trails" a few times because of the sound issues. Maybe if I listened to it more, I'd appreciate it more. I DO like how there are no keyboards on that album AT ALL! But the lack of Al's solos bothers me.
I'll learn "Freeze" tomorrow. I've always wanted to do all of "Fear". "Freeze" is the only one I don't know. I bothered to learn "The Weapon" a couple weeks ago and now I'll only play those songs in that order. "The Enemy Within" is some great bass playing! The version on the P/G concert video is crazy!
All I need is a keyboard and a band that'll learn those songs and I'm set!
Geddy is a bass GOD to me, and I'm glad someone started another Geddy thread... hehe.
Anyone know the proper term for that strum he does? You know, the sound from "Animate", "Ceiling Unlimited" and the jam on the DS version of "Closer to the Heart". Great sound. It took me a while to learn, and it's one of those "use when appropriate" skills. Like slapping and popping.. hehe.

Kick ***! Geddy's struggling with the higher notes, but the bass is crazy!

I can't stand listening to Vapor Trails ... every single track is clipping ... it gives me headache ... which is too bad because there is some good playing and writing on that CD ...
As per playing Rush ... Geddy's bass parts take a little work to learn but it is not impossible ... but the really hard part is finding a drummer and guitarist and playing that stuff note for note all 3 together and then singing lead and triggering midi patches all at the same time ...
my favorite Geddy tone and bass line is Freewill ...

That oddities site gives a good way of remastering VT.
The 'flick'! Hahah! I've read it's a kind of flamenco playing.
I've played YYZ live. My uncles band. So.. I'll only get to play Rush as a 'guest'. Hehe. Time to look fer my own band.
I love Freewill from ESL. Bass solo is crazy; much more impressive then the studio version. He had the best Rick tone on that album, IMHO. Also Ged sings it HIGHER!

There was a remastered version of VT due early this year, for some reason it got shelved and all efforts have gone into the R30 live DVD due out in November. Leaving aside the live performance where Ged only users his various Jazz basses, the second DVD in the deluxe set contains some gems, which will hopefully have a few 4001 sightings on:
ARCHIVE PERFORMANCE FOOTAGE INCLUDED:
Fly By Night - Church Session Video (1975), Circumstances - Live in Studio (1978), La Villa Strangiato - Live in Studio (1978)
Farewell to Kings - Live in Studio (1978), Xanadu - Live in Studio (1978), Soundcheck: Various Songs - Ivor Wynne Stadium (1977)
