Isn't one of the *major* distinguishing characteristics between a 4001S and a 4003S the fact that the 4001S has a skunk stripe and the 4003S does not?

OK dudes... I'm gonna have to post the pics again. I have an '84 4003S with a split-pickguard, truss-rod adjustments at the the body, neck-through with a skunk stripe. Albeit, the skunk stripe is MAPLE, and not the usual walnut... But there IS a skunk stripe.

Oh... And it also has Ric-O-Sound, which most S's didn't have.

Mitch speaks the truth. I saw it when it was a mere ebay auction. It is the only one I've ever seen. It is a mapleglo and it has a maple skunk stripe. I also remember that Mitch wanted the guitar to re-fin to some solid color. Glad you changed your mind, Mitch.

Show 'em the pics!

MAPLE Skunk, not simply a two-piece Maple neck??

Sounds like a 4003-SB to me!

There was talk about that, but I can't remember why it WASN'T an SB. Maybe because it didn't have a toaster pickup? (But it WILL for Christmas!)

Hey Mitch. Yes, Mitch has an unusual (transitional?) 4003S. It has a strip but not the usual contrasting stripe. Here is a sample.

Here's some pictures for the curious...

Since receiving it, I've added a "vintage" one-piece pickguard, vintage knobs and a Sergio-Special hi-gain pickup. A Toaster is next, and I'm still waiting for my "slippers" from Jared. =)
