For Sheena in Russia
Moderator: jingle_jangle
A short extract from an article i've found on the Russian web, not very pleasant for Rickenbacker fans, but it kind of explains why Rickenbackers are not popular in Russia (apart from the fact the prices for these lovely instruments are quite "steep" here):
"...as far as Russian musicians are concerned, their "romance" with Rickenbackers lead nowhere. The first ones who could have afforded this kind of guitar, namely Andrey Makarevich and Nicolay Rastorguev, quickly came to the conclusion that they're useless and playing them is quite troublesome. Try to play the 325th if you're not a small kid or a man with bite-size fingers. John Lennon was a real hero."
(duh, i don't mind this stuff, i have "bite-size fingers" myself
Cheers,
Sheena.

Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
Sheena: Why not write a bit of a critique of that opinion and remind Russian readers that Rickenbacker makes a wide range of full scale instruments that are of the highest quality and very playability.

Peter, i'd like to, but, UNFORTUNATELY, i never held ANY Rickenbacker instrument in my own hands, so it's pretty evident i cannot give a trustworthy opinion. But if somebody who knows a lot about Rickenbacker instruments, a real specialist, writes such an article for Russian readers, i may translate it & post it at livejournal.com so that people (or, at least, my friends) could read it & make a decision, BUT, as i have already said, an average Russian guy or girl with average monthly wage can find it hard to pay $ 2000 for a guitar... we have really "funny" prices here in general, and $ 2000 really sounds like "a lot".

OK. Here's one possibility of an article Sheena, right here. If you want to translate it, I would even post it so that Russian readers could access it. It at least gives people an idea of one full scale model.

No problem Sheena. By the weekend will be fine. Can you use an online translator to help you out?

Yes of course, will try to do it by the weekend (will try), it's not very long, and yes, i have Multitran at hand...
But it occurred to me that to make it more representative, may i ask for more opinions of the owners of this lovely model in "Guitars" section? I mean feelings and emotions when one's holding it in his/her hands, strumming the strings gently, etc?..

Sheena: I was really joking about the timeframe. I realize that you are busy. Of course, ask anyone you wish to comment, as this is only a suggestion.

That's Okay, Peter, sometimes i do fail to understand the jokes especially when i have a book to work on and after an almost-sleepless night...
uh, have a book and hangin' out here... yep, i have to be more serious about work...
will start the "project" this evening, so if not by this weekend, i hope i'll manage to finish it until next weekend, that is.

Peter: the translation (the best i can do) would be ready 2morrow evening (our time), and i've found a right community where to put it. The questions are as following, however: a) is there any "full-size" photo of the model in question anywhere, so that people could see all the guitar, not only parts of it? and b) can your photos be used (with "copyright" sign, of course)?

Sheena: I have envisioned a Russian translation which I could post and your audience could link to. The photos, could remain as they are. I am not sure what you have done.

Sorry Peter, i don't quite understand what you mean.
I've translated as close to the original text as it was possible, didn't translate the song titles above the photos cause it seems to me they'd be better left in English, as they are, added new information from your comments & Lindsay's comment. The only sentence i was unable to translate is the following:
"In concert with these pleasing visual features the tried and true truss-rod cover with the Rickenbacker name gracefully adorns the headstock."
What shall i do with it now?..
Or shall i simply give a link to your website at ru_guitars community (since it seems to me not so many people here know about its existence)?..

Sheena: Can you send me the translation in the same sections (three) as it appears in the English? I will substitute the Russian and then give you a link.
