I love that silver finish.....looks especially nice with the longer headstock.

The octave strings are reversed on the 4003s8 and the tailpiece is not cut out in the mute area like it is on the 4008. Other than that I'm not sure of any differences.

That is a great color, kinda unusual. The 4008 had the "correct" string sequence with the heavy string to the right. The 4008s had the heavy string to the left. Why they changed it I'll never know. I prefer the former.

I've played versions of 8 strings with the octave strings above and below the "main" strings. They both have advantages but I find for fingerstyle playing the octave strings situated below work out better for me. That way I can play pretty much how I normally do and strike the octave strings easily.....it's not really much of an adjustment from playing my 4 strings.

The 4008 setup makes more sense for pick style playing (IMO).

The more I look at that silver finish the more I like it.

Jeff, the 4004Cii5 would make a great choice for a 10-string bass. The neck is plenty wide enough for five pairs of strings. The headstock would definitely have to be sectioned and rebuilt to fit all of the tuners. I'm using that method to convert a '97 4003 into an 8-string with an upside down version of Squire's prototype headstock.

Dave, I love that one. I emailed the guy and he told me it sold right away, I guess I just missed it. Much sadness. But I'm glad you're getting it. Lord knows you need it.
