I read the guitar forum sometimes, and some take the cap out and others like it in!

If you take the cap out and tip it over, it will spill out and make a mess. So I kept mine.

In the beginning, Rickenbacker made their basses out of guitar parts. It made sense and kept the cost of production down. The first 4000's had six string holes in their tailpieces.

Yep Ric made their basses from guitar parts ... that is the good and the bad about Ric basses ... it gives them their unique sound that we love ... but it is also what lead to the problems with the 5 string basses using guitar pickups to cover 5 bass strings ... you either get tight strings or a drop off in volume ...
