I stripped my jetglo 4001 and used Behlen's Master
Gel rub-on poly (available from stew-mac). It's a satin finish, but I further de-glossed it with 0000 steel wool for a matte finish. I've done three guitars with this finish, and I've been pleased with the results. I really like a thin finish, as it seems to let the instruments breath and vibrate more freely. Granted, a professional spray job is going to be better-looking, but would be wayyyy more costly. The nice thing about the rub-on poly is you can easily sand out any dings and re-poly it and it will match perfectly. Also, this stuff is really easy to sand off if you choose to have a professional finish applied in the future.
Hey Jingle-Jangle...can you explain the Radar O'Reilly reference about stripping my 4001 (re:casino thread)? I din't get it....

Sure, Jo:

Radar O'Reilly always heard the helicopters heading for his M*A*S*H unit before anyone else. Hawkeye Pierce said he had ears like a dog, and smelled like one when he was wet, too...

My reference was to your hearing, Jo.

ah...gotcha. I thought the reference had something to do with Gary Burghoff being the most disliked cast member of the show...although I do smell like a wet dog, come to think of it....

Don't be concerned, Jo--we disseminate love, no matter how you smell.

That's an interesting factoid re: Burghoff.

I was a Father Mulcahey fan myself...

Welcome Jo. Along the lines of Paul's comment. Don't be concerned. It will not harm you. It is only me pursuing something I'm not sure of. Across my dreams with nets of wonder. I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love.

Yes, too bad I didn't record it. Very interesting tune for its day.

Which tune is that? Seems Floyd-ish.

Not Floydish Kevin, at least from my point of view. It is called Elusive Butterfly by Bob Lind.

A blast from...late '60s (1968?)...

Wow. I'm having flashbacks. Gotta lay off that Piraat beer...

Thanks Peter. I'll have to try & find that. Just saying the lyric to myself somehow reminds me of bits of Comfortably Numb. Don't really know why. Same meter perhaps. Cryptic sounding as well.

No, definitely nothing like Floyd Image
1966 according to the version I downloaded!
The year I was born, that's probably why I've never heard it before.
