I'm with Ted. The 60's basses just have an vibe to them that you can't replicate...IMO...

Was that a Fireglo or Mapleglo 64 Chef?

Neat bass great someone had the insite to put it away for the future but there are alot of other things that serve a purpose for that price that you could get a lot more enjoyment out of.

Now for the very serious collector with money to burn it may be worth it.

I sold my 68 for more than it was worth when I sold it for $6500 ... http://www.3dentourage.com/425/68-ric-2.htm ...

to be completely honest I got tired of the 60s vibe of my 68 4001 ... the weak neck and weak pickups ... it didn't play as good or sound as good as a 70s 4001 or a modern 4003 ... it had mystique and mojo and a lot of checks and dings and fretware ... I was really tired of having a bass with a mechanical mute and a pickup cover ...

for $25,000 you can hire a top notch luthier to build any kind of bass you want with a thin modern strong neck ... and have some money left over ...

There is the Rath practicallity shinining through again! I agree, that bass is not worth $25K to mainstream Rickdom. I can think though, of one or two guys who might pay that. Jeff probably knows who I am talking about. Perhaps our friend VG might be interested.
