Yesterday at the Birds and Moons PRS forum, I read a post that had a link to a new section of Ed's site called "Pimp my PRS". According to the poster, Ed would:

"Redo the top, put top matching veneer on head stock, add a Floyd Rose, and instead of a PRS sig on head stock he signs it himself and on the back of the headstock inlays a "Roman" nickel."

Well, before many of us got to see it, the PRS legal team swarmed in and that part of the site is now gone. And I thought RIC's team was fast!

I bought my 4004cii from Ed Roman. I had a very positive experience. I don't mind not being able to take a guitar off the wall without the help of a salesperson. It keeps in instruments in better condition. Just look at all the fingerprints, grime, smudges, nicks, scrapes, missing parts, etc. on guitars in your local Guitar Center.

I didn't think the sales people were egomaniacal either. Then again, I don't really care if someone working in a guitar store is being a jerk to me. Life's too short to let clowns like them bother you.

As far as I can tell, Ed's site still shows he's offering RICs as of today.

The regular site is back up. Maybe Ed got hacked.

Chris - Did you have a similar treatment that I had at Ed's? A person was assigned to me throughout the store and watched every movement I made including any eye contact which initiated immediate sales remarks. I may have directly come from one of the casinos slightly high so either I did not care or just laughed it all up inside. Loved the "Ed Roman" limousine! Guess thats what he used to pick up rock stars arriving from the airport. This is a guy who takes himself far, far too seriously....

John - he's been doing that to ALL kinds of guitars and basses for years and getting away with it. Check out the steinberger forum site. Ask any question about him and get your neck bit off! I see him at the NAMM Show every year. Someone should recommend sit-ups!

There is nothing worse than some sales goon standing over your shoulder and scrutinizing your every move when you take a guitar off the rack to pluck it . However , If you have ever been to guitar center it would make you sick to your stomach !Every young kid and goth looking freak in the world is grabbing a guitar off the wall and beating like Joe strummer from the clash !although i was a kid once too, and remember doing that myself but..... I personally would not buy a guitar from Guitar center after seeing that ! The Horror

The thing is, if Guitar Center has a beat-up guitar hanging up on the wall, you can almost always talk them down to an absurdly good deal just on that. Even more so for non-instrument stuff, like amp heads and mixers and such . . . just haggle and make sure to act like you're really not interested at all unless the price goes down . . . mention how you saw a nice vintage X and Y store for a bit less because it was nicked up a bit . . .

I can understand completely wanting to keep your inventory in good condition. Being followed around either doesn't bother me. What bother's me is the completely condescending and arrogant manner with which the site is set up and written. I've never been to the store, but I don't think I'd care to based on the attitude I get from *every* page on the website. I want someone who I can talk to who won't treat me like a moron and who won't talk incessantly about how amazing they and their instruments are.

A good example of this is the music store in Savannah where I got my Ric, "Annie's Guitars and Drums". I'm not a regular customer there (I bought my bass and my amp there, but that was about two years apart, and that was it), but both times, I walked in, and everyone was really friendly and answered questions and if they didn't know an answer to a question of mine, they said so, and they gave their honest opinions on their own inventory which, amazingly, didn't consist entirely of "This is the greatest thing ever and only we carry it!" I asked about the Ric (that I eventually bought), and talked with one of the guys working there for about 30 minutes about the merits and drawbacks of 5-strings and 4-strings and which basses we thought were awesome, and which basses we couldn't stand, and so on. I was debating between the Ric and a 5-string American J-bass, and, on their recommendation, I went for the Ric, even though I ended up spending about $400 less that way. It was great, and of course, it worked, because I'm singing their praises right now. But really, I want a salesperson whose goal is not simply to get me to buy really expensive stuff from their store and to make sure I know just how awesome they are.

What ! You mean you did'nt know they are the only music store on earth that matters ?!?! LOL . Yeah i know what you mean lol

If I lived in Vegas, I'd be a big fatty too. My cholesterol would be through the roof too. All that great food is so cheap out there.
