It'd be nice if it was an RM1999!

RM 1999 or 4001S - it is such a great looking bass.

Ken, is there anything stamped on the end of the headstock? On some RM's there is a model# plus what might be a date or a batch #.
If you had the case and it had the badge then you could say for sure but it does fit with the Smith figures so I'd say who cares, it is what it is.

Surely the only difference was the designation - Weren't RM1999s just S models under a different name? I have to say, Ken, I'm drooling...

Put it this way.

If it was the 60s, and you had a 4001S in the UK, it was an RM1999.

We didn't know what 4001S's were! All Rics were RM to us. Image

The only difference was the badge on the case.

I bought the bass in Canada, so theres no telling.

I guess it just adds mystique to the 60s s model being an RM or not.

Well it was either an export[RM,or another country] or a special order for the states it was not listed on the american price sheet as a model.

Somebody's got themselves a real bargain!

My old 72 BG got $2048...!

I'd have paid up to 3k for that, Mr Ken.
