Threads and posts like this one make me wonder why Rickenbacker doesn't reissue the 4005.

When the owner of the company thinks it is ugly as sin... and they have sold poorly in the past, it is hard to build much of a case.
a redesigned hollow body bass on he other hand...

"When the owner of the company thinks it is ugly as sin..."
I still think he was joking.
If indeed JH thinks that the 4005 is "ugly as sin", then what must he think of the 360?
Quote from the RIC website: "this Deluxe hollow body with its special contour around the entire body perimeter, is still perhaps the most comfortable guitar of all. The bound body and Rosewood fingerboard, inlayed with triangular pearloid markers, provide an exceptionally attractive appearance"...

The 360 is similar but not the same as the 4005. the 360 has asthetically better proportions IMHO. There is little doubt that the 4005 is based on the the shape of the 360 but the longer neck of the bass on that light weight body can complicate things a bit. I am just guessing here but the longer horn on the 4005 is probably there to give it better balance on a strap. I don't think John was kidding. The 4005 was discontinued soon after he took the RIC helm.

I had a '66 4005 back around the time Yes' Drama album came out and I distinctly remember that bass NAILING Squires sound on Does It Really Happen(which to me is the quintessential 4001 sound).'Nuff said about it sounding like or better than a 4001/3.
