I LOVE the look of that 4004L. Now if the pickups were big humbuckers.. like Wal pickups.. then I'd get one like that. Those DS pickups are a big waste of space for just single coil pickups.

The Darkstar pickups on that JG Laredo look like aluminum windows.

Does anybody put any non Rickenbacker pickups in their guitars, ones that actually fit straight in without butchery that is?

I've got a GFS Retrotron New York bridge S/C pickup although I have not tried it yet, supposed to sound D'Armondish with a bit of Gretsch Dynasonic / Hi-Lotron.

It's just slightly higher than a normal High Gain so it should fit same width / length.

I've tried a pair of GFS Retrotron Nashvilles on a Epiphone Sheraton which sound much better than the stock humbuckers, fat but twangy!

That looks awesome!

I agree with you, John, Lakland basses are WAY overpriced IMO.

I wish Dark Star pickups would be smaller and had adjustable polepieces - then they'd be perfect.

They're not adjustable? I thought the little screws were the polepiece adjusters.

They'd be perfect for me if they were humbuckers.. a waste of space for single coils.

Correction: you corrected Sérgio on a Dark Star pickup question. As the French say, 'nuance', meaning 'slight but significant difference'. He who laughs last laughs longest hehehehe...
