For $4400, I'd be tempted to part with my Jetglo '73 with all the goodies on it.

I'd let my April 73 Burgundyglo with all the goodie's plus a horseshoe in it go for that too.

It's interesting to hear those high amounts.
I'm nuts but how far is too far?
Ken just sold a 72 that was better wood for $3200.
About a month ago a 73 with all the features went for
$2500.
How does that song go?
"Makes me wonder........"
Now to attend to that bustle in my hedgerow.......

If the seller saw this thread he would cry tears of joy!

If I had been selling (and lurking) and seen the early bidding, I'd have raised the reserve ASAP...

Well-
The last FG 73 on the bay had a large bid placed on it
many days before the action's end by it's new caretaker......

It seems that there are some scratches close to the tailpiece... or it's just the light reflection?

you guys can have the old basses ... I'll take the newer ones with stronger necks and less fretware and less yellowing and less rust ...

I actually agree. I would sooner buy a new/newish 4003 than another vintage Rick, or any vintage bass for that matter. I have a 75 4001; that's exotic enough. I really don't want to play the 75 too much anymore, as it's getting close to museum status.

A new 4003 with the walnut, a mapleglo...hmmmmm...

I basically decided on the 4004 based on the fact that my 4001 is basically a 4003...there are a few things about the 4001 I don't like; fussy output jack, the body binding...but I lived with these flaws happily for a long time! Image But I wanted to have a bit of a change (note: I played a fretless J bass as my main bass for a number of years)...

But a new 4003, working fine, no neck issues, would be a great back up bass for me. It'd probably grab a fair amount of playing time. Image

I've got my JG, now I need to find a color I don't have. The blues are nice, or maybe a Monte or AutumnGlo.
But first, I need to find a bag of moneyImage
