I wonder how well that LDS 5x8 rocks?...

I wonder about those odd number speaker cabs...how they wire them to end up with a nominal impedance that's a standard (2, 4, or 8 ohm? Hey, more speakers is moving more air, and smaller speakers create smaller waves, thus less "dead spots" in your room.

I've tinkered with some designs of a 2x8, and a 2x8 with a 15 in it...probably need a cross over in that one, but I suppose you could have the 15 and the 8's in separate sealed compartments and let physics do the frequency "separation". My idea would be to reduce the size of it somewhat by angling the 15...sort of like the 2x12 in Carvins BXR combo.

I used to have a Peavey 1516 cabinet with 2 8" mid/high drivers and a BW 15", as I recall it was a nice sounding speaker. I currently use a SWR Baby Blue II combo with 2 8" Celestion drivers and a Bag End 5" mid/high driver, very nice. Sometimes I will couple that with my EV 1-10 cabinet.

I used to have a Peavey 1810 cabinet. It 2 10" mid/high drivers and a BW 18" for the lows. It was big and heavy. It was a nice sounding cabinet. Then I switched to an SWR rig.

Joey, I used to have one of those Peavey 1810's. heavy sound, heavy weight...!

I got tired of heavy weight. I even replaced my SWR Goliath II 4x10 with an Avatar Neo B212, which is working out quite well and sounds great. I hated to part with that SWR cab, but at the end of a night of gigging my back prefers the weight of the Avatar cab.

That's why I now have two Traynor YS-15 cabs loaded with Eminence Deltalites! They each weight 38 lbs. and with my 7 lb. Walter Woods amp I have a very nice 650 watts rms rig that is very easy to manage.

Same here Jeff, I now use an Ashdown 500 watt head with two 2x10 ashdown cabs. For smaller gigs I just use one cab on its end.

Likewise Bob I use an ABM Evo 300 head with a 2x10 on its end for most of my gigs. It does the business and doesnt require for a chiropractor to be stood on standby. As for those Peavey 1810 cabs...what a nightmare, **** sound coupled with (I think it was called) a Mk4 head...garbage. But the weight!! Mine got stolen with my car one night (taught me never to leave gear in the car again, it was a 2 man lift really) but I got the cab back smashed, after a year, I was upset, I never wanted to see it again ! replaced it with the 15BW+2x8's. That was loads better. I use a Peavey Nitrobass occasionally for reinforcement/backup and I think its a good amp. Ashdown ABM is the way to go, I have used it for 5 years solid and not a glitch.

Small is great... but a guy had an SVT2 and a SVT8x10 cab and boy was that a sweet sounding rig...

I have a Yorkville XC808 cabinet which has 8 X 8" speaker configuration. Sounds great, tight, punchy with enough low end and highs to sound killer with my V63 !!!!

It's a heavy cab at 113 lbs but it is easy to move around with the handles and wheels.
Never thought I would like the 8 inches speaker that much !!!!

Hi guys just thought I would chip in here as a semi pro player I acquired a 4x8 SWR cab this year and used with my SWR SM400 head my Rickenbacker basses have never sounded better I can keep up with any guitar players stack and cut through on stage with as much power and that distinctive growl as only a Rickenbacker can give in fact the 4x8 cab over powers my other cabs to the point that I do not carry them any more but this has given me a problem as I like to use the Rickenbackers in stereo or bi amp mode so if anyone can suggest a cab or amp to compliment the SWR 4x8 cab please let me know.

How about another 4x8 SWR? Or perhaps their SOB 1x15?

Those SWR 4x8 cabs are not easy to find as they have been out of production for several years. I think the SOB has also been retired, it's been a while since I've seen it on the SWR website.

I think I saw one recently at my local Sam Ash, you want me to check it out for you?
