I play a 360/12 and can see why some people may struggle with it but i have small hands and generally have no problems, although i'd like to try a 660 some day if i can ever find any locally.

FWIW, having just picked up a copy of Jim McGuinn's 12 string video, I really had a lot of fun watching him show his tricks over the weekend.

As a player with some 5 string Scruggs style banjo experience way back when, it was especially fun watching him use his banjo rolls on the 12string for a very stylistic effect that certainly gives Jim his own unique signature sound beyond the compressor circuit.

I have a 1966 360/12 and I struggled with the thin neck. So I purchased a new 660/12 and struggled with the thicker neck of the 660/12. However, I persisted with both and now I can play either guitar equally as well.

I play both the extremely thin 360/12 and the marginally wider 660/12 and can play either equally badly!

I'm with you, Lefty!! I limit my fumblings to the "marginally wider", however. I've only ever played an "extremely thin" in a guitar shop....

The good thing about a thin neck, and the neck on my '67 366/12 is like a pencil, is that it allows you to play things you couldnt on a wider neck.ie holding down 2(4) strings with one finger, and strange chord shapes etc.It does take a bit of hand arching to get the clean 'C' though, agreed.The Roger Mcguinn dvd is great for tips on this subject , like someone else said.

I find I can do hammers/pulloffs over chord shapes easier & in different places than on wider necks. As a matter of fact, the stuff I come up with on the skinny neck I usually CAN'T do on a wider neck, since my fingers are fairly short.
It did take a few weeks to get comfortable on the thinner neck.
Mine's a 6, but the same principles apply basically, so I'll have to give the McGuinn DVD a try.
