Vito.....I was very close to ordering one of the "available" Blueburst 4004L's from POTR but was unwilling to wait....then the JG popped up. I'm sure I'll be jealous when they start rolling in. Hopefully it is soon for all of you guys.

This bass, a '05 4003 Blueburst, is now for sale. I purchased it from POTR earlier this year, and it is indeed the bass that was at NAMM. Probably the first Blueburst bass offered for sale. $1300.00. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

A pair of Bluebursts. Not something you're going to see too often. I purchased the 4004Cii Blueburst from Wildwood Guitars this evening.

I wish my camera would cooperate. This picture in no way does the bass justice. There is indeed a very, very slight green hue to the Blueburst finish towards the center. It's a very cool effect.

Wildwood Guitars is located only a couple of miles from where I work so I drove over to check this bass out in person. Normally, I would have bought it immediately without hesitation, but with Christmas just a few days gone, a recent
house purchase and...well, I decided to keep peace in the house and initially passed on it. It took another day to wear me down.

This instrument is absolutely beautiful. Plenty of flame to the wood, the Blueburst is very even and very well done, front to back, top to bottom. The gold accents are amazing on this bass, and I don't even like gold. The fingerboard is wider than the 4003 and the neck profile is not as 'C' shaped--it doesn't feel like a baseball bat the fretting hand. I found the body of the bass very comfortable and a bit thinner compared to the current 4003. The controls are easy to get at and use. The body contouring is like an 'S' model, only taken to the extreme. The walnut winged headstock looks great and appears to be different from the 4003 in that they appear to have narrowed it on the 4004. With the re-introduction of the walnut wings, maybe they've reshaped all the bass headstocks?

When worn using a strap, the balance is good, probably better than the 4003. The bridge design and adjustment makes sense. Also, the 'setup' was really nice right out of the case, probably the best I've seen on a new Rickenbacker, so far. The new 4004 humbuckers
kick the heck out of the old humbuckers in my 4002, and I like the way the neck pickup on the 4004 is once again up against the end of the fretboard.

If I have any criticism, it might be with the finish on the end of the fretboard. The neck pickup hides some of it, but I'd suggest a little more time be spent on the finish work there.

Greg, sure is beatiful...the green tint in the center is visible, even if the pics don't do the bass justice. I have the same problem taking pics of my FG 4004L...

Before you sell the 4003, get used to the 4004. A few have been vocally disappointed at the model, and personally I see no reason NOT to keep my old 4001. They are very different basses...since the Laredo is still "new" (have had it less than a year), I'm still searching for the right string and understanding what it can do. Image

But the results so far have been encouraging!

Great new bass Greg!

Since you are unhappy with those pickups, I'd be more than willing to take that old bass off your hands. Image

I Dont have it yet, just sent the check this morning. She looks like a real beauty though.

I would like to say that Greg has been a gentleman and a real pleasure to deal with. That always makes a deal so much the better.

Congrats and enjoy Scott! Nice pick!

Dang that BBR is hot!

Maybe RIC will extend it into 2006 and the Cii 5's will come back and... Well one can hope - no?
