I've used 4001 and 4003 basses for classic rock, heavy metal, top 40, and right now in the nu-metal band that I am in.
My '73 is tuned to BEAD, my '79 is tuned to C#F#BE.
I can use my Ricks in any kind of music.
I don't do much slapping on bass, but I have no problem getting a great slap sound on them.

I use my 4003's for blues, funk, rock a billy, punk a billy, surf (use the Sea Mist Green for that) classic rock, oldies rock (50's) 60's rock, garage music, jazz, actually you name it, I've probably played it with a Ric.
