I don't see what the big deal is, Jeff.
Don't like the mute or ROS? Don't use em! Don't like the pickup cover? Take it off! Don't like the bridge pickup cap? Take it out!
BTW I never use the mute, the ROS, or the cap either. All of my basses have RI horseshoe pickups, so the cover would not bother me.
I'm just saying that there are ways around the features you don't like rather than getting rid of them. If the 4003 lost those features, to me, it wouldn't be a Rick anymore...

eh? pretty weird if you ask me. this subject has been done to death here, but IMHO why would you want to cut the bass out on.... a bass? Just one more switch to worry about i dont get it at all.

Personally I'd not change my perfectly stock 4001...first of all, with enough watts the treble PU sounds fine (I'll admit with RW's it might not be great...the bridge by itself with flats is a great sound). With both pickups running you can dial in a lot of great tones.
Still...I see why folks would like the non-capped sound, after playing one of Andy Winter's basses a few months back. So I look at this as a nice additional feature. But not really earth shattering.
Troubles me that they used a push/pull on one of the tone pots...I would have rather seen, from my engineering view, a toggle switch. The durability of those push pots worries me. That's one of the reasons I gambled and got the Laredo (when I had never seen a 4004 in the flesh) over a new J Bass with the S-1 switch.

Above e-mail is inactive. try ed_ardzinski@**** where **** is Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. I tend to see things inthe hotmail box quicker...
You won't have any trouble with the switch- it's something special, not like the ones you see at StewMac, for instance.
If you have no use for the feature, more power to you. Keep the switch in and nobody will even know it's there.
But at least now you have the option, it doesn't cost you anything, and it has no effect otherwise on the instrument.
And there's still more coming.

I GUESSED IT CORRECTLY!!! YEAH!
I think it is a great feature that provides tonal options. If you don't like it, very easy, don't use it.
I can't wait to see what else is up John's sleeve. Hopefully the new bridge for the 4000 series.
Let's see now, a MG 4003 with walnut wings, vintage cap switch, VP (I wish that included the horseshoe pickup along with the toaster), new bridge (hopefully), this is sounding real nice so far!
Can I send my '04 4003FL to RIC and have walnut wings put on it? Yeah, I wish!
