John, besides from the flash I saw on the powertube there wasn't much else that led me to believe I was having problems.
I push the master at around 8, and have the gain at around 5. I did not notice any change at all in the intensity of the tubes glowing. They all looked the same before and after the initial flash. I did notice a slight drop in output after, but really not that much, and nothing before.
If I wouldn't have caught that flash earlier, it would have came as a complete surprise.
This is my first go around with tubes except for my old Ampeg B15, but that never got pushed hard.
Buy it before someone else does.

Does anyone know if the Ashdown combos have headphone jacks? Their website doesn't say . . .

I just got the Ashdown 4x10 Mag 300 combo. No headphone jack, but it sounds really good.

Playing my 4001c64s (with joe osborn flats) thru it I've been using the eq bypass switch and it sounds really warm and clear.

I also looked at getting the mag300 head and a seperate cab, but the combo sounded just as good, and isn't as deep width wise as the seperate cab so it's easier to carry.

Well, I played through the B2 with the Hartke 4x10 XL today at Church. I do like the Hartke speakers with the aluminum cones. It is amazing how little I have to mess with an Ampeg to get a good sound! I can't wait for the Pod XT Live. I'll have tone coming out of my .....oops! Speakers, I meant speakers!

When I get that Fireglo 4-2-5 mod, I will have the best sounding gear I ever owned, Pedulla and Eden notwithstanding!

My Ampeg SVT classic had a similar problem to Bob's Traynor. At 6 months, one of the power tubes blew out and took out some other circuit with it. The repair shop fixed it under warranty, but I had to pay $160.00 or so for a re-tube. They replaced the Sovteks with Svetlanas and its been fine since...But that was 6 months ago, so we'll see how long it lasts.

How loud do they get? I might be in the market for a new amp soon, and I want something with good power and volume.

Randy, if the budget will stand it try the Ashdown ABM 500 head with cab of your choice. They are loud and have never let me down once. They also sound very good...!

I don't know, in my little test, the B2 won, hands down.

I've been looking at the B2RE and the MAG 600. I'll have to look at the ABM 500. I use a Carvin 1x15 600wt cab right now. The Eden Nemesis 650 looks nice too. I used one like it at an outdoor festival last fall with an 8x10 cab and I was impressed.

Hopefully my Svetlana's will have a long and productive life as well, Icabod.

Oddly enough, my Ampeg certified repair tech said that the Svetlana's are what Ampeg recommends as a replacement tube. Yet they install Sovtek's at the factory. Go figure!

I currently use an Ashdown MAG300-115 Combo, UK made, and I really like it. 307w is plenty for me since I have alot of P.A. support, plus I'm the soundman, so I make sure I'm plenty loud!! I put my Sansamp in front, and it's ideal for me. 1 x15, no tweeter, and still pretty crispy. Plus I got it new for $289, probably a mistake, but I wasn't complaining...
