I notice that the Ric acoustics don't seem to have a pickguard. Or it is a transparent one. My Tacoma has a clear pickguard and to be frank about it, it's the one thing I don't like about an otherwise great guitar. To me, for an acoustic to look like a guitar, it has to have a black or tortoise shell pickguard. Know what I mean? Thoughts?

No, Mark, they don't have a pickguard.... I kind of like that look myself--there's nothing to detract from the clean lines and gorgeous checkered soundhole binding.... However, I sometimes wish my Comstock had a transparent pickguard, because I am afraid that one day my vigorous strumming with the pick will do some kind of damage to the face of my lovely guitar!

You don't want to cover up that pretty wood do 'ya? Image

I would like to have one of those cool retro lookin' pickguards you see on the 60s acoustic guitars.

I believe that the former Japanese distributor for RIC ordered a few that way. Maybe three were made. I thought I might get one but it never happened. :-(

Wow, I was unaware they did some with the fishtail peghead. Damn that is cool.

Agree with "off with its head." Looks kind of goth.

I'm like you Melissa, I tend to strum very hard and am grateful for pickguards. You can buy one you know and stick it on yourself. Stewart-MacDonald is a great parts company (www.stewmac.com) and they have some.

Cool.... the fishtail is certainly a different look!

Can't say I like those pickguards very much on those old guitars; a bit too showy for my taste.

Wonder where one could get a pickguard like that made?

Regarding those "fishtails", this design probably went away because they were too scary for the Western market. No offence, but they look like the Devil - literally! I'll take one though...
