I need the same truss rod cover for one of my basses Brian. A couple of my 3000's came without trc's so I had to fab a couple up. I've been playing musical truss rod covers trying to get them all covered and I want to replace my fakes with real ones as well as get one for a bass that has none(since I sent it to RIC for exchange). I know the rules at RIC and the reasoning but I'm a VERY loyal customer and find it hard to accept that exeptions can't be made for some of us on the forum. I'd be willing to drive down to Rickenbacker to have JH himself affix them to my basses.

Thanks for clearing up the difference between bank theft and restoration Dale!
Again, If someone was up against it, I would do a one-off print and for that particular print I would charge $10.00 bucks. I would just shoot the image on a screen that had the room to fit it.
Dane, I agree with you as far as paying twice for the TRCs. There should be an even swap system in place for owners. When I contacted RIC about my finish deteriorating, it fell upon deaf ears.

Bails Said: Is the fact that "a one off wouldn't bankrupt RIC", really an appropriate excuse for theft. I suppose robbing one bank wouldn't necessarily bankrupt them either as they have heaps of money, right?
I am truly amazed at society's ability to justify their own selfish, and in some cases criminal actions, by explaining that their crimes aren't really hurting anyone. At what point does it start to hurt?
Sorry, I couldn't let this one slip by as hard as I tried. When the hell does making a one-off cover equal robbing a bank? Where is it selfish or criminal to have a cover made? It starts to hurt when you have to pay TWICE for a truss cover
like Dane and everyone else who wants one. I'm sure that the raised logo covers cost more to produce too. Peace & Love!

Illegally copying a truss rod cover is a minor offence and seems harmless. On the other end of the spectrum, robbing a bank is obviously a serious crime. My question still stands: "At what point does it start to hurt?"
Every time someone purchases a new Rickenbacker, part of the cost pays the wages of the RIC lawyers. I would prefer RIC didn't need lawyers to chase up those who steal property from them, and think it's OK. Every consumer unavoidably pays for the crimes of these type of people, and in my book, that makes them selfish.

It isn't illegal to make a truss cover. It's illegal to sell them. I explained that it hurts when you have to give your cover in and pay for another one. Who's being selfish? If you want a "classic" cover you have to give me the one off of your guitar and you have to pay me for the replacement. If you are buying a refurb and it is missing a cover you're outta luck right?
The only time a lawyer is paid is when they are retained.

Miguel, How dare you ask for a gold cover for your white one.

That seems odd. I traded two white TRC's for two black TRC's with raised chrome logos. It really sets off the headstocks. A black one with gold lettering would look really good on my black fretless as a replacement for the gold plexi one that I made. Oh well.....

Fellas, fellas...this thread was already covered a few months back, when I discreetly enquired if it was possibly possible could someone maybe make me a *blank* TRC??... I was shot down quickly and efficiently by some top dogs... the shape is copyrighted, the typeface is copyrighted, and the mere thought of doing so is intellectual theft. So there you have it! Making a TRC for personal use is a shameful practice that results in hairy palms and blindness, so I hear.

I had no problem exchanging my TRC. I called RIC and explained that I wanted a vintage 660 TRC and that I would be sending a black one with raised gold lettering. Cost me $33.00. $25.00 and $8.00 for shipping.
When I mailed it, I sent USPS that showed confirmation of delivery. That way RIC couldn't say they never got my old TRC. Plus I kept the postal receipt as further proof. Everything went off without a hitch.
Though I will add this. When RIC sends your new TRC, it is by FEDEX and SIGNATURE required. However, the goofy FEDEX guy just stuck the new TRC in my mailbox and I didn't sign a dang thing. My wife (32 years with UPS) said that was pretty typical of FEDEX.
Anyway, I do have a brand new 660 TRC that looks killer on my MB 650.
Hairy palms??!!? I was wonderin' why folks looked at me kinda strange when I waved at 'em....

Actually the purpose of the thread originally was to try to find out which truss rod covers from which models and years were interchangeable without drilling new holes in the instrument. Maybe I didn't word it very well initially. I would like to replace a trc on a 381 with one from a 650. If this info is in a previous thread can you provide the link Jo ? However as stated earlier in this thread, using a recommendation made near the beginning, I will either paint my existing one or contact Ric about the possibilty of an exchange.

My most recent TRC exchange was sent via USPS from RIC.

Brian, The fella I talked to at RIC said all TRC's should be interchangeable EXCEPT the vintage TRC's, 350v63, 325, 660 etc.
I did have to drill a hole to put the 660 TRC on my 650.
I would think a TRC from 330's, 340's, 620's, 360's, 370's, 381's would all be interchangeable amongst each other. (No comment on 4000's etc.....)
That was my understanding talking to RIC.
Anyway, give 'em a buzz, they're pretty nice folks.

Jeez, and I thought a 381 was a Vintage Series model, too...

So I would say it's safe to say the raised logo TRC holes are common due to the fact that they are molded.

My apologies for not pointing out that the 381 is VINTAGE too.......
